Im 19 weeks at first check up i was 15stone (cringe) at diabetes midwife meeting at 16 weeks I had lost a stone and half? I thought you put more weight on than normal if you have GD...

Got another check up next week, I dont want to be losing weight to be honest not until baby is here. Anyone else have the same? Im not dieting and wasnt really watching what I was eating until I failed the GTT at 16 weeks.

It will probably be the change in diet, I have lost over a stone since since be weighed at my first appointment. I did pass my first GTT though, no one is worried I put all my food into my fitness pal app on my iphone to ensure I am eating enough and of the right things.

If you are following the gd meal plan, it's normal to lose weight. Just because you have gd doesn't mean you get bigger, your baby is the one that usually gets bigger. That is why it is so important to let your sugars under control. I have gd and I have lost 27 lbs this pregnancy. I have never gained anything until last week which I was 37 weeks. I think what I gained was fluid weight also. My nutritionist and dr say it us not concerning if you lose weight while prego as long as you are eating. If you are losing weight because morning sickness won't let you keep any food down, that can be a problem. I'm in the U.S. so I am not sure how many lbs 15 stone is but if you are overweight than its ok for you to lose. Talk to your dr if you have concerns about it. If you follow the gd meal plan, it will give you and your baby all the nutrition you will need. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. I can't sleep so I thought I would peak in on the second tri boards. Good luck with controlling your sugar!

My mom had GD in her last pregnancy and it was diagnosed early and was went on the GD diet. She lost a lot of weight but everything was fine, bro was born at 3.4 kilos.

For anyone who cares.. A stone is about 14lbs, I think. Anyway, I have lost 13lbs in 14 weeks so far because of eating healthy. I have GD but I also have diabetes when not pregnant. It is perfectly normal and perfectly healthy to lose weight. Make sure your BGL's are in good range, try to get all your carbs in (3oz or 85 grams a day of your daily carb intake should be whole grains), make sure you are hitting your target calorie intake recommendations and as long as your baby and uterus are measuring fine then it is YOU losing weight and not the baby not gaining weight. It means that you have actually lost MORE weight then what the scale is showing you because while you have been losing weight, your baby has been gaining weight. Do not focus on the scale at all. It just means that you are losing weight faster then the baby is putting on weight. This might also change towards the end of your pregnancy when baby starts putting on rapid weight. At 24 weeks my baby actually only weighs slightly over a pound so I expect to gain some of the weight I have lost because baby will be putting on the weight.

I lost 3 lbs the first week I was on the GD diet. I've stayed steady after that, which puts puts me at 18 lbs gained and I'm 28 weeks, the average is like 24 or so, I think. I can certainly use to lose, though, as I came in quite overweight. I'd just lost 30 lbs before I got pregnant, but still have a way to go. I'm missing the pregnancy splurges like crazy, but at least I won't have to start completely over losing weight.

Totally normal to lose weight on the GD diet. I was diagnosed with GD on August 28th (so only 4 days ago) and I have already lost 6 pounds. Baby will still grow normally, and should not be big as long as you stick to the diet either. Try not to worry, it is you losing weight, and baby is still getting everything it needs, minus the overload of glucose that it doesn't!

I lost nearly 3 stones last time I was pregnant as I had GD. Been diagnosed as having GD at 21 weeks with this pregnancy and just started on insulin as my morning bgl was creeping up. Didn't want metformin as it made me very sick :(

Hey guys,
What are the symptoms of GD, and how can I avoid it? I have a very sweet tooth and I am in the uk visiting family at the mo... Not a good thing for the waistline, I'm surrounded by naughty food!

I think a couple of the symptoms are constant thirst, pain in the pancreas, and edema. There is no way to avoid it. Anyone can get it, even if they are the healthiest eating person in the world. It has nothing to do with what you eat. The placenta is making too much insulin for your pancreas to keep up with, so unfortunately it is out of your control. I don't think they test for it in the UK though, unless you have signs of having it.

Symptoms are insatiable thirst, peeing all the time (also pregnancy), hot flashes and night sweats, feeling tired after eating, edema, excessive cravings and hunger even if you just ate (especially for grains and refined sugars), vision changes, high blood pressure. You may experience all of these, some of these, or more commonly none of them at all and you might still have GD.

Like LoveSanrio said, you can't prevent it. Either you will or you won't have GD. You might not have GD in this pregnancy and develop it in the next or visa versa. It is as varying as the symptoms and other complications as every woman and every pregnancy. There are some things that can give you a higher risk of developing such as being over 25, overweight, family history, and certain races are all higher risk. You also have a higher risk with each pregnancy that progresses to the fetal stage of development (9+weeks) or if you have had GD in a previous pregnancy.
