After having no other risk factors or real symtoms - at my midwife appointment last week I had 3+++ of sugar in my pee. I was sent off to the day unit because they thought I may have excessive fluid and I had two more tests with 3+++ sugar.

Had a growth scan and fortunately no excessive fluid and baby is only a smidge above average sized (but in all fairness I am really quite small!)

Had the GTT yesterday and result has come back as positive and I have an appointment tomorrow at the hospital.

Any ideas as to what I can expect at this stage and is it likely that they won't want me going overdue if she still hasnt arrived in a few weeks?

Hi
they will probably show u how to monitor ur blood sugar and see if you can control it with diet first. Also u should get another growth scan. Tbh I doubtthey willinduce u unless ur baby is on the large side. Good luck x

As Oneday said they will get you to monitor your blood sugar level. This means pricking your finger and testing your blood using a little monitor. I have too do this 4 times a day, but I think this varies from hospital to hospital. Usually they will try and get you to control it with diet alone. This means cutting out sugar from your diet, limiting your carbs (as carbs turn to glucose) and generally eating little and often to keep your glucose levels on an even keel.
If diet control doesn't work for you (they gave me 2 weeks to monitor this, but as your quite far along they might give you less time), or if your GTT test result came back very high they may start you on tablets or insulin injections.
Different NHS trusts have different policies on induction of GD ladies, but I think it's generally judged case by case, and also depends on what kind of treatment you are receiving. For example they will be much more likely to let you go a week or so overdue if you are just controlling with diet (assuming baby hasn't gotten too big).
Good luck with your appointment, it won't be half as bad as what your probably thinking! :hugs: x

Thank you :flower: I had a bit of a cry about it earlier, it has really shocked me because it feels like it has come out of the blue and stupidly I can't help but feel that I have let my baby down in some way!

The doctor sounded lovely on the phone and was really reassuring so fingers crossed it goes OK tomorrow.

Back from the hospital - all went well. My GTT fasting result was normal but at 2 hours was 11.5.

I am controlling with diet for the time being and going back next week for a review.

The consultant today suggested that they would look to induce between 38-40 weeks :flower:

I feel like I am being crap at this diet controlled milarky - I am being so so good and this morning I still got a reading of 13

I just feel really confused about why this has hapenned to me at such a late stage and I have no idea what is normal and not normal.

I don't see consultant until thursday, I suppose she will give me a better idea of my options.

Try not to feel too disheartened hun, although I know its crap when you get a high reading! Was this your fasting or your after breakfast reading? If it was after breakfast what did you eat? You may have inadvertantly ate something which has made your sugars rise. How have your readings been generally?
Unfortunatley it may be the case that diet control won't work for you, but that won't be because your not trying, or because your rubbish at it :hugs:. It's all the fault of those crazy placenta hormones! x x x

It was my post breakfast reading - I had special K just like I have done on other days and things have been fine

It seems that I get 2 good readings in a day and then a really high one, but not at a consistant time of day.

I am a bit happier though because I met my friend for lunch and managed to survive lunch in a resturant and get a reading of 5.5 afterwards.

I will try a different brekkie tomorrow and just try not to get so upset...I will put the getting upset down to silly hormones too :haha:

Thank you so much for the support though xxxx :flower:

I had the same as you, some times the reading was fine and others through the roof. I was induced at 39+6, and at 40 exactly Roly Poly Oli was born by c-section. Dont be scared of the induction. You can have pain relief at any point, none of this waiting until x cm dilated nonsense :)

Good luck!

Thank you :flower: I am pleased with myself today, good reading all day after food and I didn't feel like I was starving myself!

It is all going to come down to what the consultant thinks on Thursday I guess...

Just a little update - I saw the diabetes consultant and obstetrician yesterday and all went well.

I was offered tablets to help with my readings but after talking it through we decided as I was so close to the end and my readings aren't awful all of the time that I would stick with diet control (even if it drives me insane...)

They are happy with baby and see no need for a further growth scan as my previous one at 35+4 was very normal.

If no baby here by 30 November then I am being induced that day at 8am when I will be 39+1.....eeeeeeeeeeek!

I can totally relate Amelie! I was diagnosed at 34+1 and panicked like crazy, spend all night crying. Your LO will be fine, just do the obvious stuff, i found breakfast was a difficult one, any cereal sent my sugars soaring. Do you eat meat? The only way i could get a low reading was something like 1 piece of toast + sausages for brekkie, or scrambled eggs + toast, not the healthiest but it helped for a short while until LO was here :)

Eggs and bacon is amazing - but I can't tolerate the toast :growlmad: I discussed it with the consultant that I can barely tolerate any carbs as a part of a meal i.e. 2 new potatos sends my readings high when otherwise the meal would be fine.

She wasnt really happy with the situation but said with a week to go then it was OK to carry on. I have since upped my snacks of carby things in the day and I am feeling much better.

Would be nice for baby to make an appearance before the induction but it is looking more and more unlikely....
