Hi ladies-

I got diagnosed with GD week 28... just barely. My numbers were low, as was my fasting number on the day of the 3 hour test. This really caught me (and my OB) by surprise. I have always been someone who has watched their diet and exercised, so this was kind of a slap in the face. I am so trying to get over that feeling.

Anyway, since I got diagnosed I have been controlling my numbers really well. A lot of times an hour after I eat my blood sugar is between 85-100. Once it was 121 after dinner. My fasting number is always 70-83. Both my dietician and OB say I can ease up on myself. That is hard to do, I want my LO to be okay.

So my question is this, she isn't measuring ahead at all as of Friday, she's measuring right on time. If my GD continues to be controlled like this, is there a possibility I won't have to be induced? That I can go into labor naturally? And that a c-section won't be necessary? Does anyone have any GD success stories they can share with me to ease my fears about induction and c-sections?

I had diet controlled gd and my doc would have let me go to 40 wks but not over we both decided to schedule an induction for 39 wks 4 days due to back issues I was having. C section was never really talked about other then the typical if it is an emergency we will do it. Anyway I never got induced because my daughter had other ideas. I spontaniously went into labor and she was born at 38 wks 1 day.
I would talk to your doc if you are concerned but if you are controlling your gd with diet I do not see why they would not let you wait to see if you go into labor on your own.

thank you so much for the answer, I appreciate it. Can I ask if signs of diabetes went away after she was born? Have you had any trouble with it since?

Thank you for the info.

They tested me while I was in the hospital and my levels were good even after having a soda with my dinner.
Have not had a problem since she was born. Although I was told by the dietician I saw during my pregnancy that because I have pcos I will most likely be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes sometime in my lifetime.

Good to know. Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it. PCOS ups your chances of type 2? I had no idea.

I mean I know a diagnosis of GD ups your chances but I have also heard if you don't have any precursors, were able to control it by diet during pregnancy and it goes away after pregnancy that you don't have quite as high of a chance of developing type 2 after birth. My doctor and dietician seem hopeful that I will have a low chance of type 2 after birth but I am still going to be way stricter with my diet and find way more time for exercise.

Blah, I was hoping for an easy pregnancy, haha
