Getting a Doula?

Well hey there, I know I haven't posted in awhile, but I've just been stressed and super busy and going through a lot :/
Well I have an appointment tomorrow to meet with the director of doula's at a birthing center in my town. Have any of you had a doula? If so, what was it like, and did it help?

I had a doula for my labour last week, and I didn't think she was much help. It might have been because my labour was too fast (3-10cm in half an hr) but I was in extreme pain, I wanted an epidural (somewhat defeats the purpose of a doula) and was yelling at my doula to stop touching me, and I couldn't breathe through the contractions like she kept telling me to, instead I just screamed

I think the idea of them is good though, I was really looking forward to having her at my birth, and think that if it were slower and more paced out than I could have benefited more. I don't think it hurts to have one anyways

I wasn't going to get one then I saw a poster in my doctors office that had the benefits of having one.. it was crazy and made me instantly want one! I'm going to ask for one when I go in the hospital
