getting really down

I don't know what's gonna happen with us. We're at 7 weeks, and it's just not been working out. Problems with latch, weight loss, nipple damage, supply... We've been on and off the breast, I've been pumping constantly for 5 weeks, we're supplementing with formula... This week we are getting him checked for tongue tie. Not that I want him to have it and have to have minor surgery, but it will be good to have a definitive answer. If it isn't tongue tie... I don't know, I think I might have to give up on this. It's just too much stress and I honestly think I'm getting depressed about it. I know I've given him a lot, but I wish it could be more. I just don't know... It seems like my supply is dropping now too, on top of everything. If he ends up having tongue tie and getting it corrected, will I even have milk?
Sorry I'm having a bit of a pity party for myself... Just having a hard time.

Hey Mica I think I remember you from our overdue thread? I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time. I struggled with bfing too so I can empathise. My daughter had anterior and posterior tongues and has had them snipped. It wasn't a miracle cure but it has helped her latch, although it's still shallow. How are your nips? Are you doing anything to help them heal? It took us 8 weeks but we're now feeding pain free, something I never thought would happen. I haven't had any supply issues but I know fenugreek, oatmeal and a few other things can help. I found that a couple of hours of skin to skin always increased my supply. You have done amazingly well to breastfeed for this long so don't feel guilty. You should be very proud considering all the obstacles you've faced

I think you have done amazing. Having a newborn is difficult enough without stressing about feeding. Do what you feel is right, whatever makes you happy.
