Vin was always a colicky baby, spitting up, projectile vomiting, windy, refluxy, fussing and writhing all night. I just presumed that was how he was and we got on with it.

Then I gave up dairy a few weeks ago, for my older babe who is on EBM (and now suspected to be cmpi) but unexpectedly it was my younger boy who improved almost right away. He's no longer windy at all, sleeps through the night now and only spits up if he's over eaten.

Only trouble is his poo is now mucousy? It's yellow, passed easily but not pasty or curdled like before. It's pretty much thick liquid. Is this normal for dairy free (and vegetarian!) breastfed babies or is something not quite right?

I think it is normal. I've been dairy-free for about three weeks now and see a lot that look like that from my little one. There was something I read that described how breastfed baby poop could vary in lots of ways and still be normal. I didn't worry so much after I read it. Will pass along the link if I can find it again.

I was reading something on Dr Jack Newman's site that mucous in poo is normal, as is green poo as long as it isn't accompanied by other negative symptoms. Also their poo changes as they get older, my youngest has stopped having poo with seedy bits and now poos less frequently but his poo is now fairly watery, uniform in texture and occasionally a bit mucousy by the end of the day especially if its warm and he has been having a lot of short frequent feeds. I wouldn't worry if its not accompanied by other symptoms xx

Thanks ladies, that puts my mind at rest. He's so much better with me off dairy, so we will definitely stick with it. Surprisingly easy too as I tend to cook everything from scratch anyway. As an added bonus I also feel great myself!
