Has anyone got any experience or advice?

I've had spd since 14 weeks and am now in constant agony. I'm starting to get really worried about labour and birth.

I'm worried it will make it worse and take longer to recover, but also i'm in tears getting in a car, how are my legs going to widen enough to have the baby?

thanks:flower:

This is my second pregnancy with severe SPD, I didn't have it first time round. It's surprising how well your body adapts. Labour kneeling up or on all fours. I had to go on my back because I had no time and I just kept saying mind my pelvis when they touched me lol. I recovered soon after. There's one bonus, because we have SPD, our pelvis is wider than most people's and baby moves through it much quicker and easier, we just paid for the pain through pregnancy instead of labour :) xx

I had SPD from 16 weeks and was in agony. I was begging them to induce me because of it in the end but I went into labour at 39+5. The SPD did not affect labour in the slightest. I pushed on my knees leaning over the back of the bed and needed a little help to get in that position and then back round again but tbh I think even without the SPD I would have needed help - I was huge and in labour! Afterwards it went instantly. I certainly can't remember feeling anything in my hips just after so I'm not sure if that's because it went straight away or if I was just in more pain elsewhere :haha: But seriously, I asked this same exact question on this forum before I gave birth and was terrified - but it will be absolutely fine :hugs:

I didn't even notice my SPD while I was in labour. More painful things to worry about, I guess. :haha: It was gone as soon as I gave birth as well.

Thanks for the replies, its reassuring to hear that it didnt affect your labours

This is so helpful to know! I am in so much pain walking and putting my pants on and working. It's a big relief to know it's gonna get better and won't cause too much, if any, problem during labor.

I could still feel pain during labour but I just made sure not to over stretch the pelvis. That's the key thing. Find where you're comfortable to open your legs to, and don't go past that. Watch the midwives and tell them off if they push you further xxx

I had SPD with my second, I found it okay delivering with it, in a birthing pool because it was easier to move around, for me.

This time I have SPD again, but most of the time I manage to cope without too much of a problem. Again, I'm hoping for a water birth as that's where I find I put less strain on my pelvis.

You don't have to widen your legs that much to give birth. I gave birth kneeling last time which was really good! Planning on doing that this time as well.

Have you been to a physio and done the excercises ? They can really help if you Keep at it, after 3 weeks the pain has a good chance of easing.

I had the same fears. My SPD was horrendous with my second, so I was panicking about how to literally have my legs any wider than a foot apart. But when I wa contracting, I seemed to forget and the pain went away and literally, as soon as I delivered her, the SPD vanished!!

It was blissful after many months of struggling to get in/out of car, climbing steps, turning in bed.

So , no, it didnt really affect delivery at all. I hope yours disappears just as fast x

I gave birth in the pool and it was so easy to move about, I didn't feel the pain of spd during labour :)
