DH and I would like to leave Poppy with my mum overnight during Christmas and probably the odd afternoon as well. I am having trouble pumping sufficient BM to get the amount necessary for these occasions.

Can anyone point any of the problems I may encounter should I offer her formula during these times? Sorry, I can't think straight today - v. tired!

Thanks.

I left emergency formula when I left Hebe recently and it didnt need to be used!! I thought I wouldnt get enough together but I did. I dont know what potential problems you'd have - on the occasions that Hebe's had formula she's been fine so you may have none! :) x

I have just gone back to the occasional BF and after chatting to health visitor, she advised me that mixing isn;t a big deal. I only want to BF in the evenings so she said thats fine to use formula in the day. I think if you have established BF then giving formula will be fine.

I would give her a bit each day to get used to it as it could cause constipation if you just give it to her once. It may not though, you never know.

Thanks girls. What about any problems it may cause for me? Will it reduce my supply if I don't feed her for, say 24 hours?

x

You'll need to pump hun if you're thinking of going a while.

Last sunday I went out for lunch/shopping and was drinking. Now I didnt pump while I was out (12pm till about 7pm) but I did pump when I got in and chucked it away. My supply was fine the next day. 24hrs might be a bit different coz you'll need to pump a few times I'd say or you're gonna get engorged at the very least. :)
