Hi Girls,

At the end of april we are going to my mum and dad's house in france. Fin will be 6 months old. It involves a long (6 hour+) car journey overnight to ferry port which I'm assuming he'll sleep through. He's outgrowing his Maxi Cosi seat at a rate of knots....... so i'll have to get him a 0+ seat. There is also another a later ferry but it's in the day and that would mean Fin would defo be awake most of the way down. He already screams if he's in his seat for more than half an hour. Please help me make the journey easier? Any tips at all???!!!! I'm dreading it!

If your on a ferry he wouldnt need to stay in a seat... would he? Sorry I know what our ferry's are like... I dont know what yours are like! haha... I hope you have an amazing time though.

no, sorry i didn't make sense... car journey is 6+ hours, that's what's frightening me!!.... ferry should be a four hour doddle!!! xxxx

If you travel at night in the car would he not just sleep? Does he sleep through the night anyway? Tye always sleeps in the car for ages!!

i'm really hoping he sleeps in the car... do you think he will? he doesn't really sleep in the car during the day but i'm hoping cos he's knackered...... plus do you think he'll be comfy sat up for all that time?!

I should think the way the carseat is designed he should be ok and will sleep if he is tired... the movement of the car always sends courtney off...

.. Im going to spain on 17th april courtney will be nearly 7 months... argh an aeroplane lol...!!

I think we're brave!! Hee hee. xxx

keep him up as much as poss in the lead up to the journey, then maybe he will be sooo tired he wont care where he is! if he does wake up, stop at a service station (maybe allow some extra time for your journey) for a stretch and a bottle and then he should go back off.....

good luck hun!!!

Hiya, i think you are very brave!! Patrick sleeps for hours in his car seat he loves it. In fact he would sooner be sat up than lay down! He may just sleep hun. Good luck anyway...i have just realised my post was no help at all lol! xx

He won't have outgrown his car seat by 6months babe, they do seem snug but are suitable till 12months/13kgs and my 16month old child doesn't even weigh that so don't rush out to buy another seat.

I reckon he'll sleep for most of the journey...whenever we travelled to South Devon (6 hours) or Kent (5 hours) the kids always slept for the majority of the time when they were babies.

Good luck sweetie:hugs:

Awww thank you for that. xxx

brave woman! Hope you have a good trip :hugs:

If he's tired enough he will sleep, and most babies are very tired at night. Kathryn never sleeps in her stroller but she was so tired today that she did! Also about the car seat, it really depends on the baby, but only get a new one if you really need it. We just had to buy Kathryn a new one because she's so tall that she's outgrown the hight limit on her infant seat, but she's only 16 lbs 10 oz and the weight limit is 22 lbs. We've gotten a big convertible car seat so we can keep her rear facing, and it's very tall so she can stay rear facing as long as possible. Good luck with the trip!

I'm sure he'll be fine hun!

We're off on holiday to turkey in a few weeks- Halle will be 11 weeks old then! :happydance:

We're takin Alfie to Florida in May he'll be 5 1/2 months, its a 9 hour flight eek!!!! its overnight on the way back so hope he sleeps.

I would imagine he'd just sleep in his car seat if he normally sleeps thru the night

Weire going on holiday next week - 30 mins in a car, 2 hours on one train, 1 hour in station, 2 hours in next train... I am excited but not about the journey, not sure how Tigs will be!!

As someone else said hun, don't move LO into a big carseat until they NEED to be moved, they are far safer in the smaller ones.

I've done it twice to Ireland - First time Erin was 3 months and then second time she was 6 months.
We had a 3 1/2 hour journey to ferry port, 3 hours on ferry and then another 3 hours in car the other side. She was absolutely fine, slept most of the way in the car - was awake all the time on the ferry (very nosey watching everyone). We had to stop a couple of times in the car when she needed her milk but she was great and only pooed on the ferry.
Next weekend we are taking her on the plane to Ireland - journey is so much shorter but can't take as much stuff!!

I'm sure he will be fine and sleep - with it being dark and the motion of the car. xx
