Hi,

I have had Graves disease for 13 years now - I fluctuate between overactive and underactive thyroid.
For the 13 years, I have spent about 5 years in total on medication - I was due to have a thyroidectomy when I fell pregnant, but that has now been put on hold.

I am currently on 50mg propylthiouracil per day, and due for a blood test this week to check progress.

I have been reading up on Graves disease and pregnancy, and have been very worried hearing about the increased chance of a thyroid storm during labour, stillbirth, etc - I am worried as my midwife doesn't seem to have any idea what Graves disease is and I've yet to speak to anybody other than her or my GP during this pregnancy (I'm 15 weeks).

I just wondered if anybody else is pregnant and has the disease, or has been?

 stay away from doctor google.

I had graves, but have had radiation iodine to zap my thyroid.

You should be seeing a maternal fetal specialist.

The issue with graves is that, even though it may be under control, you could still be producing anti thyroid antibodies, and in the third trimester, that can cross the placenta, and wreck havoc on baby's thyroid and cause IUGR.

A maternal fetal specialist will check on you levels of antibodies and will give you frequent US to check on baby to see what the prognosis is. I have had US at 6, 7, 12, 16, 20, 24, and my next one is at 28.

The chance of something going wrong is very slim though!

Good luck!
