okay another question on amounts!!

Harriet has started draining 5x 7oz bottles a day, yday had 6.
She has already had 3x 7oz bottles this morning...

So she's having between 35 and 42oz a day... is this about right??!

I have turned into a paranoid mess as the HV told me she was gaining too much weight and not to give her any solids - yet milk has more fat than fruit / veg?!

My LO has, on average, 30oz per day but she is a little'un for 5 months old (just under 13lb at last weigh in).

If she's hungry then I see no problem with letting her have what she wants. Is she jumping up through the percentile lines then? Is that what is worrying the HV?

I'd trust your judgement - if she's happy, alert and doing fine then keep on feeding as you are doing.

:hugs:

Liz has around 40oz a day and the HV didnt seem concerned atall. She told me that once they get mobile and excess fat will start to come off anyway so I really wouldnt worry :)

After reading this i am worried my LO isn't getting enough! She only has 28oz a day as she has 4 7oz bottles due to sleeping during the night.

I agree though. If she's happy on what you're feeding her then don't worry. Best to have her happy than hungry :)

My Lo does not drink alot of milk either some days she will only have 24 oz, they drink what they need so go with what she wants. I have spent may days worrying about Lucie not drinking enough milk, but she sleeps through and is happy. Don't worry if she is happy then she is fine!

aww bless i reamber feeling the same was worrying that my daughter would be over weight my litte girl was a hungry baby and was feeding every two hours very demanding i spent the whole day making bottles it drove me mad and i couldnt keep up but please dont worry all babies are different and all have growth spurts your health visitor would have more to say and be worried about if your baby wasnt drinking her bottles and wasnt gaining weight so i wouldnt worry as long as your baby is happy and healthy try not to worry some times it could be thirst i found with my daughter so i offered her cooled boiled water in between bottles babies get dehadrated just like us so maybe this could be it i moved my daughter onto hungry baby milk which seemed to work she was going longer between feeds and it evend out eventually maybe try your LO on hungry milk

well!!
i spoke to a different HV today and explained the situation, and tbh she didnt really care...
but i asked how much milk H should be on, and not sure how she worked it out but app she should be on 36oz a day...
today she had 35 so will see how she goes.

Think i am gunna start weaning next week when she's 5 months as i want her to be used to food before we go on holiday as i cant be doing with too much palaver!!

thanks for everyones replies. HV's really push my buttons!!!

Can I ask how much Harriet weighs? Rebecca has never had 36oz in a day but she is a little'un!

I think perhaps trying solids is a good idea for her.

I got Hollie weighed today and she is now 13lb 2oz so she's put on 1lb in 3 weeks so I feel a bit happier now that 28oz a day doesn't seem too little.

my lo drains 5 or 6 8oz bottles a day he weighs 19lb i wouldnt worry hes only 13 weeks to!

hv just said to try him on hungry baby milk as hes still hungry after 8oz and then wean at 17 weeks!

Just a word of caution - when I started Rebecca on some baby rice she began to drink about 5oz EXTRA milk per day! It increased her apetite rather than decreased it (which in our case was very welcome indeed!)

Even now at nearly 8 months Earl still have 24oz a day on average. Up to about 3 weeks ago he was up in the 40s.

Up until they're on 3 meals a day I was told they should still be offered the 2.5x their weight in oz's - it's up to them if they take it or not. At 17lb she should be offered 42oz - 6x7oz bottles is about right in that case. Would she take 8oz? Earl has never been able to take 8oz except at bedtime - at the moment he has 4-5 6oz bottles so he's not dissimilar.

We were on 5 or 6 9oz bottles at that age. At 11 1/2 months we are still on up to 40 oz a day on top of solids.

My niece is 3 months and she has 30-35 ounces a day.

She weighs 13.8 pounds and the Dr is very pleased
