My 4 month old has had green poo for a week now, hes feeding as normal nothing has changed apart from he has a little cold , i took him to the doctors but he just said its normal but i dont understand why it would suddenly change from yellow to green?

It is because he has a cold.

Mucus is hard to digest and goes straight through them, giving the milk less time to digest (so it isn't the colour you expect) added to that children who have a virus or bunged up nose often "snack" more on the watery drink of milk that happens early in a feed (some call it fore milk but the guy who coined this from the dairy industry says it is soooooo misunderstood that he wishes he'd never used it - plus cows udders are completely different to our breasts), because this has less fat per volume and more carbs it is a different colour when digested.

Often the only way I knew my LO was under the weather was green poo for a week or so (it was often quite a different smell to it too). Then it'd go back to normal. There is nothing abnormal about green poo except in a baby who has NEVER transitioned from green newborn poo to the seedy mustard colour - then it can be a sign of poor milk transfer but in older babies it is just one of those things and often occurs with a cold.

ahh thank you, i did wonder if it was down to his cold but didnt think it would effect the colour and yes it stinks LOL

Also look up overproduction of milk :) Green poo is a primary sign of that, too. The La Leche League site has a great explanation.

That's interesting about colds, I never knew that.
