hi all.

bit of a strange request here but i hope somone can help.

ive just bought 2 DIY impression kits from mothercare as gifts for grand parents.

im having great trouble getting any kind of print from jacob as i dont want to hurt him pushing his feet into the clay stuff. ive tried standing him up in it any letting gravity work its magic. hes got some good weight behind him and knows how to push with his legs but that didnt work :nope:

has anyone else made or tried to make the impression and had success?

Im thinking maybe its for older babies but there is no age mentioned anywhere on the instructions.

If its the same one I got from there its crap and I ended up throwing it, the clay doesnt soften enough and it would have hurt him too much to push as hard as it needed

I spent £50 on one from mothercare and it was totall CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPP I tried putting his foot in and he kept pushing it down the box broke, I tried making it thick and wrapping it round his foot and neither one worked was a totall waste of money!!!

I went to the baby show and got one from there (creative-casting.com) alot cheaper and a million times better the cast is like what dentists use to make impressions, it is thick and sets quick and is easy to pull of hand/foot the clay sets really quickly and final result is great...The only thing I got use out of from the mothercare kit was the frame!!!

If its this one
https://www.mothercare.com/Motherca...3/280-9370556-5601846?_encoding=UTF8&mcb=core

or the other one near enough the same personaly id give up and go and get your money back, there is just no way the clay will soften up enough to do a babys print.
Maybe a toddler or older but not a babies.

I warmed the clay up a bit, that helped when i did Izzy's x

yeah its that one :growlmad:

ill give that a go scally before i give up

thanks all x

Oh I had that one and it was pants and I had to throw it away :(. Got a cheaper one in Toys r Us and it worked great

I tried and it was crap!!! I didn't get a decent inprint from LO. In the end I brought a stamp pad from WHsmiths for £5 and every now and then I do a footprint to see the growth. You could always buy a nice bit of card and a pretty frame and do this.
Also when it's peoples birthday, I send them a card from Alfie and let him sign it with a footprint!!

I heard the clay or plaster of paris in some of them contain chemicals that can burn the skin, so told not to use them.

I bought some of the kiddie paint from the Early Learning Centre and have been trying to make hand and footprints with that. It's very messy, and so far we haven't managed to get a good set, but it's very fun

Hiya, I got that Mothercare one as a present from my brother, I did it when Skylar was about 2 weeks..? You have to REALLY press their feet/hands in, it took me a good few goes to get a hand print as she kept screwing her hand up. There was enough clay for me to get a hand print and a foot print, they are now framed along with a picture of her in our bedroom. The clay says it takes a day or so to dry solid, this is not so, it took the clay a couple of months to dry actually!!!!

i got a £20 one from Kiddicare - its meant for 1 hand / foot print but me and my mum managed to get a hand and foot each!! There's loads of the mould stuff and its really soft.
We just held Harriet's hand / foot in it firmly so she couldnt move them (sounds a bit like child abuse now i think of it!!)- didnt hurt her tho and they have come out great!

I just went to Ikea and got two of the deep frames to put them in... theyre great!

i did imogens when she was about 2 weeks, there is a print there but you have to look really closley ha ha, was a bit dissapointed but ive been doing her foot prints every month with paint too. also on ebay you can get inkless wipes which i used to do her hand prints for her baby book (dont trust her with paint on her hands lol.), they look really good but had to do them when she was asleep.
