HI

Just wondered if anyone has looked into or considered going overseas for IVF/ICSI treatment??

Just found out lengthy NHS waiting lists and due to my age (36) would like to get started sooner if i can.

I know some countries don't have the same rules and regulatory body as UK but I am specifically looking into South Africa as thats where my OH is from and from what I can see so far it has similar clinic sucess rates, but costs 1/3 to 1/2 the price of costs in UK. Oh and a bit of sun would be nice!!

If anyone has experience or opinions on this it would be great to hear your thoughts.

Hi dilly

i was going to go to norway. the clinic is called scan health.the succes rates were same as uk but they were alot cheaper. the only reasom why i chose london is because i coulnt take too much time of work and im a veggie and was worried i wouldnt be able to eat properly when i got there

Try looking at fertility zone on the web, just type it into google , you will find alot more info on clicics abroad

good luck x

Thanks Muncho

Will do a bit of research and check out fertility zone this weekend.

Hey Dilly

You are under QMs in Roehampton aren't you? Have you had your first appt with them etc.

I'm due to start treatment next month with them - we looked at doing egg donation in this country so that we could have 1 go at IVF discounted before we had our NHS go. I know Nellis (think she has a diary in LTTTC) considered Norway before she fell naturally - i was looking at Barcelona and a friend of a friend went to France using the Eurostar rather than flying??

Hi Dilly

I had IVF in Cape Town 6 years ago when I was ttc with my ex-husband. Unfortunately although I had 2 healthy embryos put back i got a BFN. Shortly afterwards we split up so I never went back and am now LTTC with my DH.

I can tell you that I received really good care there - it was a fraction of the price of treatment here, even with flights. We had relatives living there so were able to chill out on holiday during the treatment too which was lovely.

I did find it very difficult to cope when the treatment didn't work though - as flying all the way out there, taking a month off work, taking all the meds etc is a big upheaval and coming back with nothing is very hard to handle, probably slightly harder than doing it in the UK i think. Just something else to consider if you are going to do it - but hopefully you'll get a BFP anyway!!!

Good luck.

Here is a great site for this:https://www.ivfcost.net/

It has all the different countries, reviews and costs. Very helpful. Only problem it isn't set up well and takes some clicking around to learn the site (not user friendly), but once you see how it works it is worth it.

Thank you for the advice from you all....have been doing a little bit of research and in Cape Town there is a good clinic with pretty good success rates: 30-40% and they did 770 cycles last year, so looking into this one: Cost between £2,300-£2,800 Inc consultation and all medication.

Might get a nice little holiday out of it too.... although will have to spend a bit of time with the in-laws!!!

Really appreciate your replies...so THANK YOU :)

I know my circumstances are different because my dh is military and we are currently posted in Germany but we will get 3 free attempts of IVF in London if they don't work and we decide to pay we will go on to the German net for any more attempts. We are very impressed with the treatment we have had out here so far and the IVF is cheaper then the UK plus apparently they have a higher success rate. (As well for us, our 3 free attempts will be a lot of travelling back and forth to the UK etc, and so if we do it in Germany it will be on our doorstep which must be less stressful). xxx

India, Turkey and Norway are cheap and reliable from what I have read. Hungary too.

Try Panama or Colombia as well. But in reality I think many people come to the US to Miami or NYC for treatment.

i am in london, but when it comes to it, will prob do my treatment with my FS in cape town which is where i'm from. PM me if you want the details of my doc. he is the most amazing guy - best in CT. he just did my lap too.
IVF with ICSI is R35,000 I think (£2900) as opposed to the £4,000 and up I have been quoted here.

How much did you pay bobbiandnicki? I'm so glad you found a solution and you get to see your in-laws lol

Hiya, truth be told we only know of surrogacy and we've been doing it since 5000BC I think :haha:

But subtracting the surrogacy fees from the prices we know leaves you with about Rs175,000 for IVF. In English it's about £2,000 or just over. But the main reason to do it abroad is never the price. In India you can skip all the UK draconian laws that inhibit you from doing this and doing that and basically getting your money's worth. So yes head to India. There are many clinics that do IVF.
We'd gladly point you to two doctors from different clinics if you want. Just mention us to them and you'll get the red carpet treatment! :awww:

Hi Im in India at the moment having IVF at a great clinic, great price, great care.
The BBC have been here doing a documentary which will be on bbc2 next year.
Feel free to ask me any questions

We'll be in a German tv documentary next year!
Perhaps one day someone will be brave and make a movie out of our ebook - Two Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest.

It's warm in India, you're not missing a thing here in UK!
