Hello there,

My doctor is referring me to have a 'lap and dye' done at hospital and I just wondered if anyone has any stories to share eg. what was the recovery time, after effects etc. I had abdominal surgery when I was 9 & it is possible that this has caused my tubes to become blocked which is why I have been referred. I am now 35 and have been TTC for a while now. Any stories about experiences will be greatly appreciated, thank you.:flower:

Hi

I've had four lap and dyes!

I've had no problems with it at all - I was admitted as a day patient. I've always had morning surgery then ended up being at the hospital until about 4pm-ish (after having something to eat and going for a wee!!). After the op I usually feel pretty groggy from the anaesthetic. Then I feel a bit sore in the abdomen, and bleed a little bit afterwards. Sometimes I get achy shoulders from where some of the gas they use gets trapped inside. But none of the pain is unbearable or anything - just a bit uncomfortable.

I have usually taken 5 days off work for this to be on the safe side, although I probably could have taken less.

If there's anything else you want to know, just ask away! xxx

Thank you for your reply hayz1981,
How long did it take from being referred to actually having the operation done?

Hi, I had a lap and dye a few weeks ago. I was exactly the same as hayz1981. I took five days off work and had some discomfort but was generally ok. Thankfully they found no blockages. Hope it goes well for you!

Mine didn't take very long at all - but my gynae is fantastic and as he was the one doing the surgery, he made sure I got on the list within about 4 weeks. I don't know what the standard waiting time is, I'm guessing it varies from hospital to hospital.
