Hi girlies, well my lo is on aptamil comfort (used to be on aptamil 1) for around 6 weeks now. We changed in hv advise as he is a v windy baby screams for up to an hour n wakes up from naps screaming and farting. It seems to be making him worse not better?? I'm at my wits end just sat here crying after a day of screaming n no poo for 2 days.
Is there another milk I could try ie hipp etc? We have gripe water, infacol etc. Lo also has reflux btw :( anything at all I will take any advice at the mo :( xxx

I don't have any advice I'm afraid, because comfort milk and changing to MAM bottles were all it took for my LO's colic to be sorted. How long has your LO been on the comfort milk? They say you should wait it out at least 10 days, because it can take that long to see a difference. I know your LO is in pain, but it took a few days for it to affect my LO, but after that she was much better.

Thanks Hun he's been on it for 6 weeks :( xx

Hmmm, in that case I would ask your HV or paediatrician. I don't really pay attention to the reflux threads because it doesn't affect my LO, but I think I have seen people mentioning special prescription formula for reflux babies. Not sure, but you could find one of those threads and read or message the members.

I hope things get better soon.

We were on aptamil comfort for 4 weeks and had such an unhappy constipated baby. I switched him back to aptamil 1 and he is ok now. Pooping everyday!

Thanks Hun been to the health visitor today n she advised to take him off it. First bottle of c n g n we have a poo!!! Hooray lol xx

My little one is 6 weeks old & hasn't been able to poo unassisted since she was born. She passed the meconium in the first couple of days of her life but after that became severely constipated.
The midwife & health visitors told us to leave her & that she'd sort herself out but she just stayed so constipated that eventually was unable to pass the poo. The doctor told us to give her Lactulose & suppositories to shift the compacted poo. We did that & it didn't make a difference. She was constipated a few days later again.
Since then I've been using suppositories every 2nd day to keep her regular or she just gets bunged up.
Has anyone else suffered with this?

changing to comfort milk didnt really help my LO. But I found a combination of a lot of things worked.

ie 2 x pippetes of infacol before feed and boots gripe water after (I didnt find any other gripe water worked). A tummy massage after every feed and in the bath before bed. A lot of tummy time helped my LO's wind as well. If I could get a burp, he normally would after tummy time.

I took weeks and weeks of trying everything though. It's so horrible to see them in pain.

Since he hit 12 weeks, we stopped infacol, gripe water and switched to c&g stage 2 and he's been absolutely fab.

hope things get better for you soon xxx

How were you making the formula?
If you wernt using water hot enough it wont work x

I switched from Apt 1 to Apt Comfort when lo was 5wks old as she was refluxy, the comfort helped the sickness but she was constipated for weeks so I but her back on 1st milk & poops back to normal thank goodness! she wouldnt drink water, had suppositries, lactolose, gripe, infacol, colief you name it but nothing helps her wind :-( im hoping as one lady on here she just 'out grows' it ONE day! very soon I hope! I have got a few cartons of hipp i want to try too just cos it says better on their tummys.

i changed my lil man from aptamil 1st to aptamil comfort and it did him no favours at all, his reflux really took off then (maybe just timing/coincidence) he was then put on gaviscon and was severely constipated for 3 weeks. i took him off gaviscon and comfort, went on to the aptamil 1st cartons and he was pooing much better but still no better with reflux and wind. my lo is now on hipp organic cartons with carobel added and hes on ranitidine, he is now the most comfortable he as ever been :)

I went through the exact same thins as you. Gaviscon was rubbish. I started using aptamil comfort with carobel which worked great for a while. I'm now using SMA Staydown and Dr Browns bottle. LO's reflux is virtually non existant and colic problems have disappeared. I don't think the comfort made it worse but i do think it gave him a bit of tummy ache xx

Normal Aptamil didn't agree with DD, she would scream after having some and seemed to be in pain. We switched to C&G (and eventually SMA) and it stopped. She was a sicky baby though so we tried various easy digest formulas - none of them made it worse but they didn't really help either. We also tried gaviscon, again didn't help.

My HV said (I think, something like this anyway) that babies have a valve at the base of their throat which doesn't close properly until between 9-12 months which sometimes means that they can't keep all their milk down and if that is the cause of any sickiness, then comfort milks and gaviscon won't help. Sod's law, it was the 12 months end of the range for us!

Sometimes a different formula within the same brand just doesn't agree with them. We tried SMA growing up milk at 6 months but she was really unsettled on it despite being fine with SMA Gold, so we just went back to it until she gave up formula altogether.
