I've had a cough for a few weeks now and then I got a cold over the weekend. The last couple of days, the cough has become absolutely unbearable, especially at night. I get these massive violent coughing fits, feel like I am gasping for breath every few seconds during the cough and then feel like I'm going to be sick. Each coughing fit lasts 1-2 minutes and they're just horrible and leave me totally exhausted.
I went to the doctor today, and she said it could be that the cold has gone onto my chest and started my asthma up, and gave me steroids and antibiotics but she said to be aware that whooping cough is doing the rounds and that there is a chance it could be that?? She asked if I had the vaccine when I was little, and that if I had had it, it probably wasn't whooping cough. I checked with my mum and I didn't get it, because that was back in the 1980s when there was some big scare over the vaccine.
Anyway - just wondered if anyone has had whooping cough and if so, what does the cough feel like? I've never in my life had a cough like this before and I have just got back up cos I couldn't bear it any longer - it seems a lot worse when I try to go to bed.
