Has anyone's Dr. recommended a CVS?

I am 5 weeks pregnant after a missed miscarriage. My Dr. is recommending I get a CVS test done, since I had the miscarriage last time. I'm nervous about the risk of miscarriage that is related to this test. I have one healthy two year old son, so I know it's possible for me to have a healthy baby.
Is the risk of miscarriage (1 in 100, so 1%) worth it? Has anyone had this test done?
Thanks for your help. All opinions are appreciated!! I'm so torn on what to do.

I find this rather odd that a dr would suggest this test as it does come with a risk of miscarriage.

Normally a test like that would only be done after a high risk nuchal scan or I guess maybe if someone had had 3 or more miscarriages.

There is absolutely no way I would have that test done it could cause you to miscarry a healthy baby and if you do have a pregnancy that is going to miscarry a test like that won't prevent it.

Especially as you have a baby before. Sorry it just sounds insane to me.

My OB told me about CVS at our first meeting, but was not at all surprised when I elected not to do it. She posed it to me as completely optional and didn't come close to actually recommending that I have it. She knew all about my miscarriage last year and I DON'T have any living children.

I agree with Fashionqueen. There is no way I would have it after only one miscarriage (or even more than one, frankly) because of the risk of it causing a miscarriage.

Whether or not it's worth it to you also depends in part, I think, on what you would do with the results of the test. DH and I would not terminate, so the results did not matter to us.

Additionally, I figured that if I were to miscarry again, we could always have the fetus tested afterwards for genetic abnormalities. So no, personally the 1% risk is completely not worth it to me.

Exactly if it happened again then get the feotus tested after. It's pointless to test before when it could be perfectly fine and potentially cause a miscarriage!!

Unfortunately as I know myself it's common for pregnancy to end in miscarriage and I just can not understand why a dr would suggest this.

I read that a CVS has a higher risk of m/c than an amnio. Did your Dr specify why they were recommending a CVS?
You may want to get screening blood test before you decide if you definitely want a CVS. Don't feel pressurised into it. Good luck!

Thanks for your opinions everyone, it really helps.
I also find it odd that she is recommending to get it done. Maybe because we know that the first miscarriage was chromosomal?
Minnie Mummy - I thinks she is recommending the CVS over the amnio because you can get it done so much sooner. But like Topanga said, it doesn't really matter when you get it done if the results don't change your mind on what to do.
I still haven't decided what to do. We have an appointment with a genetic counselor in 5 weeks, so hopefully that will help our decision.
Part of me thinks, 1% chance so it is highly unlikely that it will happen, but then again, I miscarried at 9 weeks which is a <5% chance, so you never know. anything can happen to you!

again, thanks for chiming in. It helps me to really think it through.

We lost a baby at 14 weeks who had a cystic hygroma, we actually found out the baby had died at the cvs appointment . Our risk of abnormalities was 1/30 Edwards 1/90 ds. For us it was a clear choice if it was Edwards and we would never bring our baby home I couldn't put our older daughter through that. luckily we didn't have to end up making any difficult decisions. Had our chance been lower than 1% risk I would have waited for an amino. We have our 12 week scan in the morning for our rainbow baby and I'm petrified but know our options should something be wrong. Unless you have been told why they are recommending a cvs or have seen evidence there is something wrong I wouldn't put yourself through the heartache and worry . Hope everything works out for you xxx
