bought a box of hipp in tescos the other day. now it says on the front updated formula. instructions are boil kettle for 30 mins then make where as it use to be maje with 40-50 degree water.
anyone know why its changed again?

once the kettle has been left for 30 mins that is about 40-50 degrees..
so theyve just changed the wording from what i understand from your post.. xx

They have removed the live probiotic culture from the formula. So it no longer needs to be made up with cooler water and can be prepared the same way as other first milks. Xx

Any ideas why they've removed the live cultures?

Im pretty sure it's to do with the preparation not the ingredient. There was concern that Hipp was not conforming to the WHO and UK government guidelines of advising formula be prepared using water 70c or above in temperature. Im guessing that the government put their foot down on this issue and made them change the instructions on the packaging to fit in with the guidelines. The live probiotic cultures are destroyed at these higher temperatures so there's no point in them being in the formula. I know that other milks such as SMA staydown, but as these are for medical purposes and not just regular use they get special dispensation from the government to be made with cooler water. Xx

I did wonder about the temp issue. Tbh the live cultures caused such a bad belly for my little boy I'm glad they're gone so I can try him on it again his belly is not good with Aptamil and C&G

Damn. We switched specifically for the live cultures. And I've still been using cooler water, didn't think to check the box :/

Sigh. Not much point in switching formula now though since she'll be going on cows milk in 2 months.

Edit - I just had a thought. I know it's not advised with any brand of formula, but many people premake bottles and put in the fridge with other brands but this definitely could not be done with Hipp because it was made with cooler water. Do these new guidelines mean that you could premake bottles?

Yes you can premake Hipp and store in the fridge like with other formulas as long as you usewater that is 70c+ xxxx

Aptamil and cow and gate have prebiotics and Hipp still has prebiotics in its just the live cultures that have been removed x
