Has your doctor been wrong about an early labor prediction?

I went for my 37 week pelvic exam on Wed and my doctor was pretty confident that I would be going into labor before my 39 week induction. So much so that he didnt want to schedule me an appt for next week! They scheduled me one anyways just in case when he left the room. I am soft, 3-4cm dilated, 50-60% effaced, 0 station, and my cervix is anterior. Has anyone gotten the "Youll go anyday now" only to go all the way to the end?? Should i let myself get excited or is he just blowing smoke??

I havnt gotten that before but I can attest to the fact that no one knows when labor will start. It is not predictable. I mean even when ure in active labor they still can't predict when ull give birth. I remember w DS1 I was pushing forever (he was face up) and they kept telling me soon. Well they were saying that to cheer me on and lift my spirits but it ended up being six hours of pushing. When I was done they told me even tho they said that to keep me going they also didn't think it
Would be that long at all. If they can't predict birth whilst labor is occurring then u bet they can't really predict it before it even starts. U can be effaced and dilated for weeks and still go overdue. Or u can have no signs at all and go early. Both have happened to me!

I think it can be toxic to tell a woman she will def be in labor by X day/week. It rally sets her up for failure when it doesn't happen. If it does, great! But otherwise it can be very discouraging to the woman that's been waiting 9-10 months!
