Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help!

My LO is 4 weeks old today, and formula fed. He's already on hungry baby milk, stage 2 teats and is regularly taking 3 - 4oz per feed. These feeds are every 2hrs, DAY AND NIGHT! Tired isn't the word! I last fed him at 9:20, it's now 11:15 and he's crying on my knee trying to chew his hand off (am waiting for bottle to heat if anyone's wondering how I'm managing to write this!). We never had this problem with my 1st, he was every 3hrs from day one, which although is only an extra hour is much more manageable. Especially when you consider that it takes about 10 - 20 mins to finish feed, easily 15 - 20 mins to get all wind up and change nappy etc, settle him back to sleep, then he might only go an hour + he wakes up again!

Any suggestions as to how I can make him go longer between feeds?

Thank you!

I am having the same fun with my baby girl! She is 6 weeks and was the same until about a week ago, not on hungry milk though. With my first she was 5 hours between feeds from birth so this has been a bit of a shock! Hv said its normal and she will settle down around 6 weeks and that we were lucky with our first!! I find if we go out and about she will sleep for longer than the 2 hours!!

Hungry baby milk is only supposed to be to delay weaning. I'm not sure it's a good idea to give that to a baby so young.

It sounds like a growth spurt. Could you try a soother between feeds? Babys that young jus love to suck which can be confused very easily for hunger cues. :)

Health visitor suggested hungry baby milk, as it does say it can be used from birth. It did work, he used to feed every hour + a half!! Keep trying the dummy, he's not keen yet (keeps looking at me with the "where's the milk mam?" Look whenever I give him it! Am definitely perservering with it though, as hoping it will also help soothe him at night when he's unsettled.

Hopefully he will get better in a few weeks, it's so tiring at the moment!

I have the same. My LO is taking 6-7oz of hungry baby milk every 3-4 hours and sometimes that still doesn't satisfy her and she's hungry again in 2 hours! She is chewing her hands in between feeds and I sometimes have to give her a drink of cooled boiled water in between feeds to make her go to at least 3 hours. She is 4 weeks old too and like you I was advised by HV to put her on it. Greedy baby x

My almost-4wk-old is the same. He is on regular formula though but it is basically every 2 hours. And sometimes he shows signs of wanting to eat continuously. Last night he had eaten 6 oz before my DH said we should try and stop feeding him before he becomes ill. Its so hard to know what to do! I dont want him to be hungry, obviously! But I dont want him sick from over-eating either!
Sorry I'm no help but it looks like others in this age-range are having similar issues. At least we are not alone!

It is reassuring that it seems to be quite a common problem! Hopefully they'll go longer in time, fingers crossed!

I'd just give an ounce or two more, he's obviously not satisfied with the 3-4oz :flower:
