i'm going in for my elective on wednesday and will be in the hospital for at least 2 nights, and having had a section on my first son i have a pretty good idea of what to expect.

i wrote down a list of everything i needed to pack before i began packing and on paper it all looks pretty reasonable, but now that it's all packed up i've ended up with 2 large(ish) hold-alls, one to take in on the day and one for my partner to bring up the day after... but to be honest i feel a bit ridiculous going into hospital with all that baggage

however when i look back over the list of what i've packed there isn't really much i can do without (maybe i could take one magazine instead of two but that wouldn't exactly save much space haha)

i'm just wondering how much any other women who are having planned c-sections are taking into hospital with them. have i gone overboard perhaps?

I am also having an elective c-section on Wednesday.

I've packed a small trolley case (hand luggage size) for my things which include pyjamas, slippers, toiletries, snacks, book, camera etc and a sports holdall for baby. I'll be taking both bags with me on the day of the surgery.

I had a c-section with my daughter and took the same amount of stuff with me and found tha I used everything with the exception of my iPod and 1-2 sleep suits. Hd even bought a few extra things in the next day which I used.

I wouldn't worry too much. You'll be in the hospital for three days which is 2 days longer than a normal delivery so I would definitely expect to pack more!

Good luck on Wednesday!

You'll definitely need everything! I had a small suitcase on wheels (that would be like an overnight case) then a big Holdall too!

With everything you need you'll need a couple of bags especially as the hospital don't provide anything, the nappies take up most of the Holdall!

I also took tiny baby, newborn and 0-3 month clothes haha my friend had a baby and only took newborn then had a big baby and my other had only took newborn and had a tiny baby.

I looked like I was planning on having a mini football team!

Rather take too much than not enough and it seemed everyone else had the same amount of luggage as me

Xx

This is my biggest mind boggler, i have no idea how much of anything i need. It's getting to me to know what i should pack, i had an emergency section with my daughter 4 years ago, and everyone kept bringing stuff in, this time i have my elective on the 11th and im non the wiser and getting het up trying to work out how much is too much or how much is just right.

I will be in for 4 nights I suspect and am taking a small hand luggage case on wheels size, and the hospital provides all for baby except the going home outfit.

I plan to take
2 pjs
3 vests for easy access for boobie feeding
5 or 6 pairs undies
Two or three breastfeeding bras
Nipple shields, silverette cups, breast pads
Two pairs soft trousers
Two or three cardigans
Dressing gown
Sippers
Toiletries, make up
Hair straighteners (I lie not) and dryer
Sacks. More snacks.
iPad
Magazine or two
Post surgery support belt
Maybe some gifts for my other kids when they visit
Going home outfit or two for baby, two diff sizes maybe.

Thik that's about it...will I need two bags!?

Gonna try and remember everything I packed!!

Pack of newborn nappies
Pack of baby wipes
2/3 maternity towels
Some breast pads
6 pairs of undies
Night dress
Pjs
Dressing gown
Slippers
Baggy t shirt for me for home trip and wore same maternity trousers home I wore in.
2 packs of newborn sleepsuits (3 in each pack)
Pack of newborn vests (9 in a pack)
Baby coat
Baby hat
Scratch mitts
Blanket for baby
Camera
Some make up
Nappy sacks
Baby lotion
Cotton wool
Small sudocrem (just incase)
Toiletries bag with travel shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste and deodrant(roll on)
Towel
Toothbrush and hairbrush.
Muslins
Bibs.

Think that was it. My hubby had to bring bits in still as well, extra nappies and such.

Sounds' so funny that going to hospital for a couple of days could require so much stuff. When I had my last two sections the staff asked how long I was planning n staying for. Not that long I replied but by the time you pack nighties, slipper, gown, underwear, towels, toiletries etc for yourself that is onebag completely full. Then of course, the baby needs sheets, blankets (I don't like to use hospital bedding) and you always need spares, cardigans, hat, mittens, vests, sleepsuits, nappies, bab toiletries etc than that is another babg full. Regardless of how much I would pack, always bringing spares my OH would need to top up supplies. Babies, sure do go through clothes. I say you can never pack too much. Who cares what they think. Bring in one bag before the section, get OH to bring other one in once out of recovery. Good luck for Wednesday ladies. xx

really huge thanks to everyone who has replied! i feel so much better now i know i'm not the only person to be taking two big hold-alls in with me!

ITS2012 hit the nail on the head saying that all the things for yourself take up one bag, and that's without things like a hairdryer or anything i don't consider completely necessary, i found that my big fluffy housecoat took up half my bag alone! and since my hospital don't provide things for baby all his nappies and sleepsuits etc have taken up an entire bag of their own

for luvbunsazzle (and anyone else who happens to read this also wondering what they should take) here's my list;

my bag;
6 pairs of underwear
3 pairs of socks
2 nursing bras
breast pads
sanitary towels
2 pairs of pyjamas (with dark bottoms in case of any leaks)
nice fluffy housecoat
slippers
toiletries bag with shampoo, conditioner, soap, flannel, toothbrush and toothpaste, stretch mark oil and nipple cream
2 towels (got to have a separate one for my hair)
hair brush and bobbles
a book to read when i'm bored of hospital tv
a couple of magazine (take a break is great because it has the crosswords in too which pass the time)
a pen for the crosswords ;)
small make up bag
camera and batteries
a bit of money for tv, phone, snacks, etc

coming home in the same outfit i'm going in in as i'll only have it on for an hour lol

baby's bag;
6 x sleepsuit
6 x vests
3 x scratchmitts
3 x cotton hat
2 x cardigan
2 outfits in 0-3 months in case he is big (expected to be big but unsure just HOW big, hence the reason for the section in the first place lol)
coming home outfit
coat
blanket
30 nappies (as newborns can go through up to 10 a day)
cotton wool pleat
baby bath towel
baby wash and sponge

i think that's just about everything, and thanks again ladies!

Thanks for the list ladies, off to buy the bits this weekend, so will be printing them off!!
The lists in the 3rd tri thread are handy, but are general and not for a longer stay when you have a section, so nice to see what everyone who has a section has took and is taking.

Hi again, yes, those nice comfy fluffy gowns take up so much space. My hospital don't provide anything for baby either apart from emergency bedding if needed. When my Son was born Sept 2012 the hospital was freezing, even with all my own baby blankets/sheets I felt he was not warm enough. It was so cold they had to put him under a baby heater. Anyway real reason for contacting you was I packed only pj's top/bottoms as I usually do, but my bladder was damaged during my section so had to use a catheter for 14 days. So bottoms were no good. I don't want to worry you but maybe a nightie too just incase. It was my fifth section, bladder was firmly attached to my womb. Now 23 weeks pregnant with baby six so another section for me in 16 weeks. Think I am starting to panic already. Your list has all the necessary items so I wouldn't worry about it. I am sure your OH will be bringing extras for you too.

Take care xx

Hello everyone! Just thought i'd come and post and let you know that my little boy, Chace Jonah Waldron, arrived very safely on Wednesday and i'm sure if i'd have stayed there for the 2 night i really would have needed all that stuff! But, since i was recovering so well (off the catheter and up and about by 8pm that night) they let me come home at around tea time the day after my section :)

Congratulations, hope you recover well x
