Hello, i started weaning my 5 months old when he was about 4.5 months old. He had sprung from the 50th centile to the 91st and was draining 6 or 7 9oz bottles a day so the health visitor was happy for me to try weaning.

I started off with baby rice but only for about 3 days and then moved onto porridge, at this age it says your baby may only have a spoon or 2 but my son always finishes everything is this ok?

After the porridge i moved onto pureed veg, so far hes had potato, a mixed veg blend, brocolli and he has also had blended pear, banana and i gave him a banana in his mesh bag thing that wasnt mushed.

I like the idea of baby led weaning but i just cant imagine him being able to eat things like toast without choking? At what age can you begin BLW?
I remember my nephew would eat proper meals such as mince, macaroni etc when he was walking but i dont think he ate it this soon.

Im just not sure whether to carry on with the purees or try and give finger food etc aswell. What types of finger foods would you give?

Yes it's fine that he eats it all. Both of mine were big eaters! With my first he ate a whole bowl of baby rice the first day!!!!
Finger foods to try would be toast fingers, softly cooked carrot batons, banana sliced up, very ripe pears. Baby's gag reflex is near the front of their month so they are unlikely to choke asking as you watch them and make sure you don't let them stuff too much in.
I like to do a combination of puree and finger foods. Try introducing texture too. My almost 7 month old eats everything now... Had roast dinner yesterday as it came just cut up.
