Have you cut out dairy due to a suspected allergy in your breastfed little one?

How long did it take for you to see a difference? was it worth it?

I am on day 4 of no dairy and haven't seen any improvement. I know it can take weeks to resolve/detox but I am wary of any restrictive diet because DS is slow to gain. : (

Give me hope! :flower:

Yup I cut it out for about 3 months. Soya too.

It took a couple of weeks for me to see a difference.

Make sure you're reading every packet carefully and it's worth cutting the soy as well.

Yep, and the improvement started gradually, but right away. After about a Fortnight his colic and projectile vomit had stopped completely and his spitting up was only occasional. Nappy end took a while longer, maybe a month.
I've since tried him on a small amount of dairy while weaning, and it still makes him very sicky so we are leaving it out for a little while longer.

I'm still off dairy as he's still taking plenty of breastmilk and have to say I'm a lot healthier for it too, very unexpected! I've lost about a stone of 'middle' fat!
I eat extra greens and drink about a litre of fortified coconut milk a day to boost my calciium up and only use a very small amount of soya milk in savoury cooking.

How did you know your lo had an allergy/intolerance, did you get them tested?

My lo had about four nights of no sleep and cried all night. Nothing worked. I went to the dr and got a prescription for Zantac as she was showing lots of signs of reflux. The medicine is horrible and she vomits it back out and cries. I was thinking about cutting out dairy to see if that helps, and stopping the Zantac but both take a week or longer to see improvement. I don't want to do them together because I won't know which one is helping, but her poos are yellow, seedy and runny but have mucus sometimes. She has lots of gas and screams like she has gas pains, but I'm assuming that's normal? Those four nights she was clearly in pain and nothing helped at the time.

The Zantac also makes her very sleepy and I just hate giving her medicine unless I really have to. Thanks.

Nappy end took a while longer, maybe a month.

Did he have green poops?

How did you know your lo had an allergy/intolerance, did you get them tested?

DS's symptoms include: coughing/slight gagging during nursing, gassiness/belching, forceful spit up after every feeding, red irritation around anus, slow weight gain, congestion (baby struggles to clear throat all night while sleeping), and many frequent explosive green BM's

With these symptoms, I'm assuming it's an allergy or a fore/hindmilk imbalance. We'll see.

Thanks my lo has all of those but slow weight gain and green bm, although they are explosive. I have a oald but I know its not an imbalance. Hmm

Yes, I cut out dairy and soy about four months ago, when she was two months old. I saw a gradual improvement from her silent reflux over a couple of weeks, but the most dramatic thing I saw was when I tried reintroducing dairy about a month ago. I had a little butter and she suffered for four days. It was a very marked difference. She reacts to soy to a lesser extent, but I still avoid it.

I cut out dairy but it didn't make a difference. I never did find a reason for my lo's constant crying!

It can take a few weeks for dairy to be totally eliminated from the body so I would wait a little longer yet. Depending on how sensitive your LO is to dairy it is good to check ingredients lists because sometimes milk can be listed as another ingredient in a trace amount.

Sore anus is the first thing my paed looked for for Milk Intolerance.

Definitely cut it out completely and give it 3 weeks. Soy too.

He had reflux and I cut down the yogurt as I didn't eat any other dairy anyway. He is over his reflux , I don't know if the no dairy helped or not, I think he just outgrew the problem.

Update: today is officially a week dairy free (with the exception of some stupid crackers I didn't know had butter in the ingredients) and DS had a yellow poop today!

I haven't been block feeding yet, so the change must be from cutting out dairy. He still has other symptoms, but he hasn't had a yellow poop since his transitional BM's so I'm taking this as a sign. : )

Great news. Makes it so worth it once you see improvement. :)

I really learned how to eat tasty things too.

Lots of bagels are dairy/soy free. And some kettle chips. :)

I have on the advice of my lactation specialist. When I started seeing her we were combo feeding, and my poor son had horrible eczema and gas. She told her to cut dairy out of my diet immediately along with gradually reducing the formula. It's been a couple months since we've been off formula/dairy in my diet and his rashes are gone and he is much less gassy. I'm not sure if adding dairy into my diet would make a huge difference, but I'm scared to test it.

Well turns out it was just the one yellow poop. : (

I'm sticking with it though!

I cut out all dairy and soy products while I was breastfeeding my oldest for a few months because he was having a reaction to it. If I remember correctly, I saw a difference after a week (he had small spots of blood in his poop before then, but it completely cleared up).
