Have you ever witnessed somebody else giving birth?

I just wondered if anyone here has been someone else's birthing partner? Obviously men never get to experience giving birth but a lot of them get to witness it and be a birthing partner multiple times when their own children are born.

For women, it seems to be the other way round. Most of us get to experience giving birth at least once in our lives, but I don't think that a huge amount of women can say they have been present at someone else's birth. I myself did not feel comfortable with having my mum there or any female friends so it was just me and my OH. I think it would be amazing to experience childbirth from the other point of view though!

I have seen a few as part of my paed nurse training - I was really interested in watching so organised some time on delivery suite. It was fascinating, and even though you know that a baby is coming out it's still a surprise, haha! You're right though - generally I think that most women would not get the chance to see someone else's birth experience unless they were a mother/sister/best friend and invited to be there. Xx

Nope, though I'd feel honoured if someone did ask me. I hope one day I do, but I know the likelihood is slim.

I worked in maturity and saw my nephew and niece being born its a amazing thing to be a part of, it's not clean and fast it's dirty messy and long but saying that the most beautiful thing in the world!

My sister came to my third birth so when she gave birth to her little girl in october I had the honour of being there with her and her oh.Amazing.

I didn't ask my mum to come along... she asked to come so I agreed (I'm her only daughter so thought it would probably be her only chance to see a birth). In the end she was a massive wuss and left the hospital crying after I had given birth. The birth was a little traumatic but I think it was worse for her as she could see everything. A few weeks later I asked her if she would do it again, she said no...
On the other hand my husband was super!

I would LOVE to witness a birth x
