My baby was born at 34+6 weighing 5 pounds and is in the special care baby unit and man it's hard. We try her on the breast every day she latches half heartedly sucks a wee bit then gets frustrated and cries and ends up with a tube top up feed. I am producing HEAPS of milk and expressing every 3hrs and i just wish i could breast feed my little girl and take her home. I hate leaving SCBU at night and waiting till morning to come in.

Shes out the incubator now, off CPAP (respiratory distress when born) and her jaundice levels have improved so off the bilibed. Some days we have a GREAT feed and others she either struggles through each feed or is fast asleep.

just want my lil girl home with me

my twins were 35 and 5 ... they went from the nicu to the special care nursery. my dd was there for 21 days and ds was in for 17 days. Both are home but my dd is just now starting to nurse. I pumped for her and she was bottle fed and tube fed. It does get better, it just takes time. Hang in there!

Niamh was born at 35+4 and did not get the hang of BF for 6 weeks, i ended up giving her formula as i could not express to get her home quicker and we worked on BF at our own pace.

Thanks for the replies everyone! just want to take my little girl home!
