So Alasdair has been having formula for quite a while now. Mainly formula with some breastfeeds too.

I know he wants breast for comfort sometimes. Like, he'd have a whole formula feed, refuse to take any more but not fall asleep and then I'd boob him and he'd fall asleep really quickly. But now half of the time he is refusing the bottle. And he won't take any bottle from my OH any more.

I don't know what to do. I know I don't have enough milk to keep him going boob wise and I don't even think I want to completely breastfeed but he is being such a pickle about it. I know that he'll take the bottle - he's been having it for weeks!

Just don't understand where we're going wrong

thank you. I just don't know what to do. I'm at a complete loss. If he won't take the bottle but doesn't get enough from the boob I have no idea what I'm going to do. My parents are currently on a plane to australia for a month too so I can't even ask my Mum for advice even if she couldn't give any.

Babies will eat when their hungry so he'll eventually get that hungry he'll take the bottle. Have you thought about getting a different bottle that's basically sculptured on the nipple and maybe feed him close to the skin and get your OH to do it too.

we have the tommee tippee CTN bottles and also some tommee tippee nuby ones too. I don't understand why he suddenly won't take them. I'm going to try and leave him til he's really hungry but he is going 4 hrs without any as it is...so Im a bit worried about leaving him too long.

Most babies will go 4-5hours between feeds anyway. If you stick with it you'll get there, but looks like if hes fussy you may have to decide one or the other.

I'm just irritated that it was working well combining and now suddenly isn't! But I thought, if anything, he'd go off boob and just take bottles.

Do you use warm bottles too? If not try that. Kalea loves a nice freshly made bottle than a cold one.

I think he'll soon realise its bottle or be hungry.

Guess what, Chloe is the same re booby. Will have 7oz formula and not sleep, but on my boob and in 2 minutes she's zonked. do it every night before bed- works a treat! At least my boobs are good for something!

If you do decide to breast feed him more, your supply will catch up. Tezzy's had the same problem and has gone back to breast feeding at the moment. Some babies can really make their preferences known. Good luck with every thing you try..

well. I just breastfed him...he unlatched and still seemed hungry so I shoved a bottle in. He took maybe 10mls and stopped. Cried for about 15mins (I couldn't take any more). I put him back on the boob and now he's asleep.

The thing is, I really don't know if I want to exclusively breastfeed. I find it so difficult I suppose in an emotional way...I really don't like it. It makes me anxious and a bit uptight. Just doing a couple of breastfeeds a day was working well. argh.

I've texted my aunt who's a health visitor and hope she'll text back with some advice.

Am reassured that my supply will catch up if I do have to exclusively bf though. I guess I might just have to persevere and do it to have a happy boy.
