Oliver isnt even 4wks old n is eating like a pig lol. Hes drinking 5oz and polishes it off 95% of the time. He is often hungry just 2-2.5hrs later n polishes off another bottle. Sometimes it can be stretched out to 4hrs between feeds if we r out or he is in a deep sleep.

The HV yesterday said hes not old enough for hungry milk. Is this just normal? Should i be feeding him more? He seems a bit young for 6oz. Hes not exactly huge... He weighs 8lb 6oz.

I dont see any harm hun.

As long as he is gaining weight and not throwing it all back up. My LO is nearly 11 weeks and still feeds 2- 2.5 hrly, and cluster feeds before 6 and 9pm (every hr!), unless out and about when she sleeps in the pram (thank god!).

Does he sleep through the night? My LO has started to do this over the last two weeks and feeds more in the day to make up for not feeding whilst asleep i think.

My first daughter was like that! Be happy!!
Ailah is the other way round and its driving me mad, screaming all the time, up all hours of the night, refuses every kind of milk....and shes 5months!! lol xx

Our LO is the same - at 4 weeks (weighing just over 8lbs) he was taking 30 ozs a day (compared to the 20oz guideline for a 8lb baby). Mostly 4-5oz feeds during the day and he'd be screaming for another bottle about an hour after we've finished the last.

I think every baby is different but it's must be normal enough.

We've upped to 6ozs recently and it seems to be helping. That and being out and about as much as possible (only time he sleeps during the day and hence doesn't want to be eating!) means we've finally got down to 6 bottles in 24 hrs.

Of course now he's polishing off 6ozs and looking for more so thinking of moving to 7ozs - seems loads as he's only 7 weeks. He's gaining weight well but still staying in the 25gh percentile so not worried it's too much.

Is your LO quite active? Ours is the most active baby i've ever seen. Spends hours each day kicking and waving his arms frantically about (and loving it) so i've come to the conclusion he's probably burning more calories so needs more calories to make up for it.

I'd try the 6ozs? Worst that can happen is it's too much and he brings it back up and then you can delay it for another couple of weeks...

Your LO may be having his first growth spurt. I know Dylan had one at around 4 weeks ish, and his feeds went up loads. They dropped back a little after a while.

Anyway, I'd say just let him have as much as he wants. If he's emptying the bottle, make the next one up an extra ounce.

With hungry baby milk, it doesn't sound like it's needed yet. It's better to wait til LO is having 8-9oz and still looking for more, or going less than 3 hours or so after having that much. You may find your LO never reaches that point (many don't), in which case there would be no need to switch.

I dont see a problem hun :) we only changed to HB milk because Jayden was having feeds every 1 - 1.5 hours but throwing it back up, which HB milk it made him to 2-3 hours.
x

I think it was some kind of growth spurt or comfort feeding as he is now back down to drinking 4-5oz every 3-4.5hrs. Thank you.
