Headlice and Nits

Hey everyone.. so my daughter came back from school with nits last Monday I couldn't see any lice just the browny coloured eggs so I treated her and combed them all out after, two days after I seen a few odd ones but guessed they were just left over but me being me gave her another treatment anyway and combed again. So after that I couldn't see any and this morning ( three days after) while doing her hair I seen a few more scattered like maybe four, is this left over nits from last time or new ones do you think?

Do you mean the eggs on the strands of hair? They can be a nightmare but should be dead. I comb their hairs through for a few nights also checking for any active nits.... not uncommon to go round in circles because you can't force the other parents to treat head lice immediately.

I hate it when we get the round of nits. Once treated avoid treatment for a further 7 days. Also I recommend getting a spray repellent, they are quite good. Vosene also do a shampoo

Yeah the eggs that stick to the strands of hair.. is it normal to spot a few after a treatment? Do they still cling on even when they are dead? This headlice thing is a pain! This is the third time she's came home from school with it in the last three months. Anyway thanks for the advice and il definitely check out those products x

Yes it's very normal. I pull out the very obvious ones and go through their hair daily for the week with a good comb.

Horrible when the 'rounds' start.

We use the nitty gritty comb and vosene shampoo. I also tie dd's hair back at school and use hairspray - my hairdresser told me it makes it harder for nits to get in to the roots where they want to be.

She's not had nits since starting all these things & they have done the rounds at school (touch wood & Hope I'm not jinxing it!!).

Some lice are starting to get resistant to the chemicals used in the treatments so it could be that. I know that in the UK one of the the recommended treatment is wet combing because theres no way to become resistant but also its the best way to spot a reinfeststion when they are doing the rounds.

You need to combine daily for at least a week. I tend to comb my daughters hair once a week as a precaution. The one and only time she had nits so far she itched like crazy even once they were gone so it was pretty obvious when she did have them.

Also check everyone else in the houses hair too.

Yeah it's definitely normal. I've never used treatment just wet combed as if it's done right it's just as effective. We just check every two days and once none have been found for two weeks then we go back to once weekly.
We only got rid of our last lot four weeks ago but am going to try tea tree oil sprayed in the hair as have read a few good reviews about it being a pretty good repellent, I just need to get around to ordering it
