Im not sure this is the right place to post but here goes.
I suffer from gradual hearing loss predominately right ear and I do really struggle to hear ANC some days I have really good days.
I'm long term wtt and it scares the hell out of me that by time I end up having a baby I will be deaf I know there is support out there like vibrating pads to put under your pillow that goes off from the baby monitor but that's all I know I would love some reassurance and help and advice as I'm very worried and scared about it and bringing a younge person baby teen all that if I'm deaf I want a family more than anything in this whole world but right now I'm broody as hell and just so scared I don't know who to talk to don't want to talk to my doctor about it even though I need to be referee again because I missed the call in time for a apt waiting for my works rota :( but my dr never agrees with any problem I have that another dr has diagnosed me with and I don't trust him with this I lip read a lot I don't have hearing aids yet and I'm 22 please help

Hi,

I myself have hearing loss in my right ear. I can hear certain tones/sounds but not people talking. My left ear I have a little hearing loss but nothing super drastic.
Before I even started getting hearing loss I took ASL (American sign language) classes as I wanted to learn it as a second language. I know it doesn't help completely but just so you know all of my instructors were women who were completely deaf, hearing aids were of no help to them, and they all had children and they were babies over 25yrs ago when we didn't have as much technology.they got by and their children all grew up happy and healthy :)

They have products like the vibrating ones you can put under your pillow or sheet, they have flashing strobe type lights for smoke detectors. I'm not sure if you can hear/feel certain tones, some people can feel/hear really deep low tones so you could find something that alerts you that way.

From what I've been told by all the deaf people I know who have had babies night time really isn't a problem as for the most part you just learn your baby's routine and you wake up almost before they even cry.

Have you been sent for actual hearing testing? With a hearing specialist? If not you should ask for one, it may help you get a base line for where you are at now. And typically they reassess on a yearly basis.

I sleep like a rock as it is. And I really don't wake up from hearing things. But when one of my kids is crying or even wakes up "mommy instinct" kicks in and I'm wide awake!

I don't know if any of that helped at all, but you aren't alone! And if you do have a baby you will get by just fine :)

i wore hearing aids all my life. you get used to it and it is not so bad. and if your hearing does get worst, there's always cochlear implant (which I currently have in one ear)

go to your local Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) or if you are in the UK area," Action on Hearing Loss"

btw, I am totally deaf at night without my hearing tools, so I co-sleep. I co-slept with my ODS and is co-sleeping with my 4 months. I don't own any baby signal vibrating mat. I take my baby everywhere I go but this is the lifestyle I am used to because I grew up with it. sometimes when I am really tired, I just sleep with my aids on. but moat of the time, I keep my LOs near me(with the lights on so I can see them)

Thanks ladies I missed my last hearing test so got to get put back to my specialist I had 2 hearing tests so far both showed decreased hearing but Im losing only the low tones that's what they have said so I struggle with people talking but can hear the smoke alarm and the call bells at work fine I can't always hear the door my tv is stupidly loud haha I want to do bsl but need my oh to do it to but he being a stubborn ass and won't he will soon change his mind when one day we can't communicate at all haha like I'm not scared about loseing my hearing it's just babies lol but you guys have put my mind at rest a little I sleep really heavily and don't wake up to my phone vibrating under my head unless it's coming around the time to wake up the dog jumping on and off the bed doesn't even wake me or his moans lol my oh can get into bed turn the lights on and off and I will still be asleep lol. It's just scary because I don't actually know anyone who is deaf or uses hearing aids yes I work in a care home but I obviously can't ask them the things I need to know lol I'm just a big worrier and without knowing how long I'm going to be in wtt it just frightens me more and more
