Hi everyone

I'm not sure if I really 'qualify' for being on this part of the forum? I've had a quick scan through some of the posts and see a lot of you are going through some really tough times :( Sorry if I shouldn't be here just yet.

We were ttc for a year when I finally got pg, mmc @ 10 weeks. Three months later I fell pg again and had a natural mc @ 12 weeks. That was January '11 and we've been ttc ever since (though had a bit of a break to avoid a Christmas baby!!) with no joy. So altogether we've been ttc for just over 2 years.

I've got PCOS and have got an appointment soon with our fertility consultant. She offered me clomid back in April, but I turned it down hoping to conceive naturally at some point this year. I have a bit of a mental block when it comes to clomid - I guess I'm just stubborn and like to do things without any help!! But I am getting a bit worn down with it all - my cycles are fairly long and I get obsessed waiting for ovulation then the 2ww is quite draining, and I just keep crying when AF arrives  Had enough now so thinking I will take the clomid soon.

Just wondering:
- what side effects did you have?
- did you have problems with your fertile cm?
- can you take a break, eg if I took it Jan+Feb can I stop March+April then start again?
- once you've had your 6 cycles, is that it forever? Do you move onto IUI or something next?

Sorry for the long post and again sorry if I'm not meant to be on lttc, not sure how long 'long' is! Thanks in advance for reading and for any advice

x

I don't see any harm in you posting here hun, and sorry you are posting here.

I was on clomid for 4 cycles. My only side effect was hot flashes, but others will tell you other things. Some have mood swings and bad acne. Just be prepared for whatever you get. It can also cause your TWW to be a bit deceiving. Alot of us thought we were preggo, when it was just the side effects. Some girls helped lessen the feelings of the side effects by taking it before bed, but I took it in the morning so I could TRY to be comfortable at night(make sure you take it at the same time every day.)

As for the CM, it can dry it out and it can cause hostile mucus. You can get past this by using pre-seed. There are other methods, but the pre-seed is the fastest and easiest.

I think you can take a break in-between cycles. I just went right on through with all of mine. Once you are done with your cycles with no success, its really up to you and your FS what the next step is.

Good Luck :flower:

With clomid I have some hot flashes, moodiness (easily pissed or just a general 'feeling down' feeling), very slight ovarian cramping, and acne. Last month my cm was fine but this month i was very dry and it was hostile to his spermies so I had to get an IUI. Doing clomid for 6 months and then IUI is a possible route but it's more typical to do IUI with clomid or injectibles. I've heard that the max you can do on clomid is 12 times due to increased risk of ovarian cancer but usually no one does it after 6 months since the chance of getting pg after that is quite slim. And I'm sure you can take breaks if you like.

I think breaks are recommended just in case your uterine lining starts to deplete.

My side effects were extreme moodiness, hot flashes, bigger bb's  they went up a whole cup size and they huuuuuurt like hell after ov, my cm has been okay but we use preseed anyway since I never make enough in general  , and also cramping post ov..

I think that was it anyway.. not sure about post 6 months on it though, still on round 4 for me

Thanks for your replies ladies, much appreciated.

I bought some pre-seed already since I don't get a lot of fertile cm so I suppose I'd better buy some more :) I didn't know clomid could confuse things in the 2ww, that is a very good thing to know, thank you.

Think had better prepare DH for the worst since my moods are all over the place normally anyway! I find since our losses the emotions are somewhat volatile...it's just a hard place to be in anyway and the talk of IUI etc I find scary. I really didn't expect our ttc journey to pan out like this!

Good luck to you ladies, hopefully we'll all have some good news in the not too distant future x

:haha: I knew nothing about Clomid and the side effects beforehand so DH was completely caught off guard! Annnd I had to ask another Clomid thread if I was crazy or not making up all the pregnancy symptoms once I got my period (super sore bbs, growing bbs, cramping)

I used to think that IUI was scary too! But I just had my first one yesterday and the second one today, and it wasn't that bad. It's wasn't that great but it wasn't that bad. The nurse told me that the discomfort and pain is equivalent to when I got the HSG and that was a pretty good analogy. I felt cramping and a pain like someone was pinching me a little from the inside. I felt the cramping for about 10 minutes and then I'm fine the rest of the day, even though I was warned I might feel it the rest of the day. Oh, yeah and a little bloating that I was warned about. But don't be afraid of it, after the first 20 minutes you won't even remember how bad it was, only that you're happy and hopeful.

I got nose bleeds with my 2nd round of clomid and have had some dizziness with all 3 rounds. I agree with the CM! I've been pretty dry. We have not tried pre-seed yet, but I'm going to buy some and try that this next cycle.

Oh wow, good luck phoenixrose!! I bet you are so excited and nervous at the same time. It doesn't sound too bad, thanks for explaining the process. I didn't have an HSG done; we agreed since I've conceived twice on my own it's likely my tubes are fine. I don't know if they'll change their mind on that though.

Really hope this round of IUI has done the trick, let us know! x

Nose bleeds! Oh no! Anything to do with noses makes me feel sick!!

Good luck to you, hope the pre-seed does the job :)
