Hello everyone,
I thought I should introduce myself after lurking for quite a while.
My name is Sarah. I live in Walton on the Naze in Essex with my husband Paul and our two cats. I am 35, my husband is 36.
We have been TTC for just under 3 years, since the day we got married.
My husband gave up smoking about a year ago. I have gone from a BMI of 46 to 35 in just under a year by losing four and a half stone, which is just over 20% of my weight.
I have had a laparoscopy to remove ovarian cysts in May 09. I also had dye shot through my fallopian tubes but they think they were clear.
Our last blood tests, in Oct 09, said that I am ovulating and Paul's sperm is fine (he previously had low motility and funny shaped sperm). So we are now classed as unexplained infertility.
I am under Caroline Marfleet at Colchester Hospital on the NHS.
So now I have a few questions.
Ms Marfleet told me that she would not refer me for IVF if my BMI was above 30. I am now really really struggling to lose more weight. I would have to lose another two and a half stone to get it down to under 30.
I have not been diagnosed with PCOS, but I am wondering if Metformin may help me? Is it something I should ask her about? My GP has mentioned it in the past.
Also, although they said our blood tests/SA were fine, I am not convinced. I think am borderline for ovulation. As of yet I have NEVER had a positive OPK. I asked about Clomid in October and she said I didn't need it. Should I push for this?
Finally, I am seriously considering private IVF. Are they more flexible on BMI? I feel like I have made an enormous effort to lose weight and still we won't get the treatment on the NHS.
Thanks for any advice!
