Help 2 year old screeching at night

Hello!! My son who just turned 2 on May 7th has started screeching at the top of his lungs when we put him to bed. He has never done this he has always went to bed perfectly with out a fuss. But all of a sudden the last few weeks he has been screeching. Like an ear piercing screech. No tears no crying just screeching. Any ideas on how to get this to stop or why he may be doing it !?

Does he laugh or smile when he does it? Does he seem to be doing it for attention? Does he seem to be distressed? If he's not distressed and is just doing it for attention, I would just ignore it.
