Hi Ladies...

I currently reside in Alberta, canada. I am 25, I am 18 weeks pregnant. I am really concerned about this whole child support thing.

FOB cheated on me a week after finding out I was pregnant ( I believe to deter me from having this baby) and I havent been in contact with him since June 9th.

My questions are (oh so many)...

When do I go about pursuing child support?
How do I go about pursuing it?
When finding a lawyer how do you know which one to pick?
What happens if FOB goes "missing" and I cannot contact him?
When do you have to file for a baby's birth certificate and will having FOB's name on it or not have an effect on court case?
If he wants a paternity test, who is in charge of the cost?

Im sure I should probably be seeking legal advise but Im not exactly where to turn in this situation.:nope:

email me... I just finished court back in May with my sons father..( my son is 10) [email protected] I will do my best to help you.

and I may have to go through it again with The Child I am carrying now... :( but I am from Manitoba and the laws are not much different...
Keep your chin up, it's HIS loss Anyhow...
HUGS

i am in alberta also i never had to deal with child support before the kids were born just after and they were older, if you have the financial means ask people for a referral to a good family lawyer or find one in the yellow pages. if you don't have the means call legal aid and they can help you out, they could even refer you to a good lawyer if you qualify for help. i do recommend one mine was great about taking care of everything and walked me through everything.

you don't have to worry about him going "missing" Child support will find him and he deals with them not you, if he decides he doesn't want to pay after an order is in place they go after him and can take his driver away and even garnish his wages. No mater where he lives. They don't fool around.

you'll fill out the long form birth certificate before you leave the hospital and regardless of weather or not you put his name on it it doesn't affect child support.

if he denies paternity and it comes back that he is the father he is responsible for the cost. if it comes back he isn't (which i'm sure you know he is) it would be your responsibility. But it is up to him to prove that he is not the father if that's what he says.

Hope that helped, Good luck.

I'm also in alberta , you can pm me I've been through the system for 3 years
