My little sister is 17 and lives with her boyfriend whose 19. He works, she just handed her notice in for her job.

Her BF earns 750 a month. Their rent is 450, this leaves them with 300 a month to live on, for bills and food etc.
Does anyone know if they would be entitled to any help?
Thanks :hugs:

not sure where you guys are from so would be hard to say but why did she give up her work?
in the uk you are not always able to claim if you have left work voluntarily, but i think this may just be for the jsa, other benefits they may be entitled to -

If your in uk I am 99% certain all they can claim is a little bit of housing benefit hun x

Yeah we're from the UK. She was sufferering from depression due to her job and they told her today that she wouldn't have a job after Christmas anyway. She's been there three months. She told them today that she quit. She is a total mess :( She been at my house earlier on, I can't believe how bad she's feeling

I presume they have no children? If they don't they can't even claim any tax credits until one of them is 25 x

She may get housing benefit but because she's quit, i don't think she'd get anything else. If she'd stayed and been made redundant so to speak, she quite possibly would have been entitled to a different form of benefit but i'm not sure really how it works :)

I know, its pretty sucky. They are always just affording to live. They don't have any children, no.

Yeah I think they'll get housing benefit, the only thing she has no way to prove she has no income so to speak. They ask for proof of income, but she doesn't have any. When they tried to claim HB before they were refused because she can't prove she has no income.. crazy.

My OH has absolutely no income hun and all we needed was his bank statement to show them x

She took her bank statement with her last time and they refused it. I think I'm gonna go with her this time, she went on her own last time and she's a little bit of a pushover bless her... And that extra HB would really help them out

She will be able to claim JSA too. She will have to prove to them why she left her job and its only if they say she should have stayed that the JSA will stop :)

If she lives with her partner they have to claim as a couple and because he works she isn't entitled to a penny :nope: because I work 16 hours a week my OH had his ESA stopped and even now as he tried to find a suitable job he isn't allowed JSA x
