my daughter is 7 weeks old and im planning to introduce occasional formula feeds as have exclusively breastfed since birth. I wanted to continue solely breastfeeding but am really struggling to express.

Should i mix EBM with some formula and if so how much formula to how much EBM? or should i just offer her a bottle of formula and see if she will take it??

iv never even prepared a bottle of formula before so no idea how much to use or anything! getting abit stressed out about it all.

sorry i know there are tons of threads on similar topic

My suggestion is to give her about 1-2 ounces of breast milk mixed in with an ounce of mixed forumla. That way she can get used to the taste and her body/stomach can adjust to the formula. Don't be shocked but her yellow, mustardy poops will turn dark green almost black looking for awhile. once you formula feed the poops will never go back to yellow (assuming you are consistantly ff & bf). If you go back to soley BF, it'll change. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you didn't know. I didn't know with my first and was quite surprised and worried.

I think all powdered formulas are pretty much the same across the board. For every 2 ounces of water, it's one scoop of powder. Make sure you warm the water before mixing it with the powder (and of course test it on your wrist to make sure it's not too hot). Warm breast milk mixed with cold formula will only make the milk cold and probably unappealing to your LO (after all, she IS used to warm breast milk!)

If you get the premade formulas (no water or mixing necessary), just warm up an ounce and mix it with the breast milk, shake & serve!

And be patient, she might not take to the nipple right away but don't give up!

GL!

The person who has answered above has told you the way they do fomrula in america. In the uk its 1 oz water to 1 scoop of formula. When i changed from BF to FF i did 1 feed a day to start with as FF and then changed over, I changed quiteb quickly and used aptimal as it said was closets to BF. My Lo was fine on this and didnt have any problems. However babys react different to different formulas. I would start with 4 oz and see what happens. If she drains it then try 5oz next. At 7 weeks my LO took 6oz at a time. If your baby over feeds they will bring it back up. also in some cases if you use a formula that your LO dont agree with they can be sick or/and constipated.Dont no how common this is. My LO poo's are still a yellow mustard colour. The only difference between them now and what they where is that rather than going several times a day and just a little bit she now goes once a day and its a lot.
