I order something for catalogue i paid for item late and now the charges are £110 in late payment fees in a space of 6mths. I stupidly suffer from servere anxiety and just ignored it ! Should I contact legal advice ive offered to pay one late charge as i paid late the item was only £27

Is there anything I can do I feel really stupid

thanks
Jess

you could contact them and explain and they may freeze the interest to allow you time to pay but think you will prob need to pay full amount. Contact the company and see what they say kx

Firstly - make sure you contact them in writing to request if you are able to pay the item amount plus whatever you want to offer - stating the justifications for the reduction from the total etc. Asking for a repayment plan or reduction in fees has to be considered by them (even if it is an automatic and justifiable no) if received. I would then contact citizens advice. Having said the above, I don't think that you will likely receive a discount but if you at least put in a letter and ask for no more fees to be added while they consider your request it should stop going up.

Good luck

ive already contacted them the women firstly advised she could remove a few charges and the interest, I paid for the item shortly after the late payments but only had one fee of £10, I just dont see why I shold pay them £110 in late payment fees when the item actually only caused one late payment charge the subsequent charges were for not paying the late payment charge x

I'd contact them, explain about you're anxiety and why its made it difficult for you to pay on time and i'd let them know that you believe the charges to be unfair and will be seeking legal advice on the matter. More often than not they will waive the charges, they do not want the legal fees if you decide to fight them! Be nice about it, the nicer you are the more they will sympathise :)

I had late payment charges once (not as much as that though), i paid late because my little girl was poorly and i couldn't get to the bank :( I wrote to them and explained that and mentioned that i'd be seeking advice on the matter and they waived the charges! They'll tell you that its a gesture of 'good will' but usually they will drop them!

Really hope you can sort it and not have to pay all of that xxx

you will have to pay them,, just offer a minimal sum to them, i wouldnt waste my time on legal advice for a minimal amount

they are entitled to keep banging on the charges, as they have done, so legally there is no challenge

You will have to end up paying it so the best thing to do is start paying it now or more charges will be added, when you sign up to these catalogues they state in there agreements all about charges and late payments so by confirming you are agreeing to there terms if you keep defaulting on payments it will effect your credit rating if it hasnt already and it will be a lot harder to gain credit in future and it really isnt worth it over such a small amount

its not a small amount to me its a massive amount ! i only get £900 a month and my outgoings are £1050 thats without buying any clothes or extras !! i cannot afford to pay them

For what its worth Jess i agree its not a small amount at all :(
If you haven't already tried, i would get in touch with them and see what you can sort out, they can knock it down significantly or freeze the charges as they are and allow you to pay small installments without building any more charges. They can waive the charges all together, just depends what you say and how you say it in my experience. Let them know how its affecting you and that you feel its unfair.

They can only say no, you'd be no worse off than you are now for trying!
I know lots would say just pay it but its not always that simple is it?

Really hope you manage to get it sorted and its not affecting you too much :( I get really anxious when i owe money too (which isn't often but sometimes can't be helped) especially if i feel its unfair xx
