Hi, I'm a new mum! Erin is 5 days old and I had wanted to breastfeed but she's also quite a lazy baby and it hasn't worked out. OH has been out and bought some formula to top up any milk that I can express. On the instructions it says, to make up a feed boil the kettle and let it cool for 30 mins. Use the feed within 2 hours.
So, just to clarify - I can't make up bottles in advance and warm them from the fridge when I need them!!??? This will be awful during the night as we have to wake her to feed every 3 hours, getting up 30 mins before each feed to let the kettle cool will mean even less sleep than we're getting already! :coffee:
I'd always assumed that you could make up bottles in advance!? Help!!

hiya what i do is boil the water and keep the water in the frige then when lo wants it heat the water and then add milk. you cant keep milk for more than 2 hrs 1s mixed with water

Everyone does it different. I use SMA Gold and on the tin it says you have to make all bottles fresh but if you go on the website it does say 'if your need to make in advance' make feeds up as normal, cool ( i put in a bowl of cold water) and then put in the fridge. You have to use within 24 hour.

I tend to make up 4 feeds at a time.

I've been doing this for almost 6 weeks now and my Lo is fine.

My SIL used SMA gold (stopped about 6 months ago) and she said on the tines then it said you could pre-make and use within 24 hour.

The advice on tins is not to store made up formula, BUT if you are happy to do it then do it especially at first until you fall into a routine.

But there are other options.

Put the hot water in the bottles put them in a thermal bag in your bedroom and take the ready measured formula with you...when you need the feed add the powder shake and feed.

Make the formula with hot water and do the same as above.

Make the formula, cool quickly in cold water pop in the fridge and get up go to the fridge and warm however you want to warm it when you need it.

We're making formula up in batches of 3 or 4 bottles so we always have some ready.

Do what YOU are happy doing. SO long as the formula goes into a clean bottle and hasn't been left out for hours then it'll be fine, use your own common sense, if it were you drinking it what you you be happy with?

I make mine up every morning and just pop them in the fridge and then heat them as i need them! Its how I was fed and there is nothing wrong with me! Its how everone did it until a couple of years ago when someone in an office somehwhere decided to change the 'rules'! My lo has been fed like this for 2 weeks now and he's fine! :) xx
