Hi I'm 14 weeks pregnant. I have mild to moderate hg and have been managing ok the last few weeks with zofran. I can't function without the zofran, but I'm at my wits end with constipation!

I've been drinking a ton. Water, prune juice, and more water. I can't keep a ton of food down, but the foods that i can eat include fresh fruits and veggies. I am so exhausted tonight. Sat on the toilet for like 3 hours. Even my back and tailbone hurt now.

At the end of my rope.... :(

Anything that works for someone else??

Have you had kale before? That gets the bowels moving. I suffer from that too. With all my pregnancies. Kale is a wondrous food and great for you and baby.

Thank you! I actually have not tried kale!!!! I will pick some up today!

I know drinking coffee frequently during pregnancy isn't good, but a cup every now and then gets things moving for me almost instantly! I had to resort to a mug of strong coffee a few days ago after going days without a bm :) I'm 14 weeks on Thursday.

3 tablespoons of milk of magnesia I do that twice a week and it helps!

I also bought a pre natal that hS no iron and take it every other day. The odd days I take my normal one with added iron. The iron was really doing me in!

I do coffee and miralax (per the doc). But nothing really relieves zofran poop =./

Thank you Lady Hutch. I kind of figured there's not a whole lot i can do. I tried coffee today but no help. I do guess I'd rather be sitting on the toilet than leaning over it multiple times an hour.... Bleh!!!! Tried less Zofran today, didn't go really well. I figure maybe 8ish more weeks then hopefully i can just stop taking it. Maybe sooner since its been better managed this time :)

Thanks ladies for your suggestions!!! I will be trying all of them anyway just to see what helps!

Just be careful, if you don't go for a week definitely let them know. I was almost hospitalized as I went almost 2 weeks with out a proper poo. I went to the Doc and he said in 2 weeks I was up 11 pounds! I told him about the constipation.....said... well its been a few weeks since I have been able to go....he was like you have 48 hours to go then will be admitted. I heard Zofran could do that though and hopefully you get some relief soon!

I agree, if you go too long, you can end up with impaction. More than 5 days and I'd call the doc.

You could also try an enema.

If all else fails and you can deal with the nausea for a few days, you can stop the zofran for 2 days. Usually within 2 days of stopping I get a poop.

Have you tried diclegis yet?

I stopped taking my zofran (it really didn't help much onlyade me constipated) I started taking vitamin b instead.... Ask ur dr about vitamin b therapy! It works wonders with the sickness. I had much more success with that Over zofran..... Also what helped me toget things going were making smoothies.... I used kale, spinach, flax seeds, and lots of fresh fruits and a little water, yogurt, or juice...... It helped wonders with the flax seeds and greens ....

Hi there, I have started taking iron tablets so have terrible constipation, I drink a half glass of prune juice every night plus about 2.5 litres of water a day! Helps most of the time!

Can you change the medication?

I may ask about changing medication on Monday at my appointment....

I've tried vitamin b and unisom but it didn't really touch the vomiting :( I tried going without the zofran this morning and it was not pretty. Plus if i try to skip i get on these awful cycles where i cant stop getting sick even with medicine :(

I've been drinking a ton of water and prune juice and its helped a little. I was able to go to the bathroom a few times and i no longer have the severe pain.

I'm just so committed to not letting it get that bad again!!! I will be trying the suggestions and will ask my doc on Monday about other options :)

Thank you all so much! You're so kind to take the time to help me :)

You might ask about reglan. Some HG women have had good results with it. It gives you the opposite problem though.

I tried reglan, it didn't help any more than zofran :/ maybe combining them both would help?

I took zofran 3 times a day until 18 weeks. I started taking pericolace stool softener twice a day. And then 3 tsp of Milk of Magnesia at night before I went to bed. I did this EVERYDAY from week 12 until 19. I hate the WORST poops in week 11... I thought I was going to die... I had to dig it out with my finger twice. If I didn't take the zofran though I was miserable. My doctor said the stool softner and milk of magnesia is fine. I still take MoM almost everyday just because I am further along and have just been regular constipated. Hope this helps!!

I would consult your dr though, every Dr practices different... I was only aloud milk of magnesia twice a week though...

Hopefully OP found some relief I am back to normal, thank goodness, with out any medications!

I second the milk of magnesia suggestion. When I was on zofran (from 7-24 weeks) with my twins, I had the worst constipation of my life. The only thing that helped was taking milk of magnesia twice a week. Only once did it get so bad that I had to use an enema . With this pregnancy, I've been ok just taking Colace every day, but I didn't have to take zofran this time, thank goodness.

I hope you feel better soon!
