Hi

Lo is 13 months and can say
Mum (when she is upset mostly lol)
Dada
Hi
Bye
Moëw
Woof
Oh
Quack
Wow
Moo

And mimics sounds we make

Mum said she didn't mean exactly slow just at her age I was saying like 30+ words but I think that is advanced, in my opinion LO is average.

Any advice or options greatly appreciated :flower:

She is definitely not a slow talker, I know of some babies who don't talk till their 2+ years old. It all depends on if their exposed to other children or not. When their just around their parents or caregivers, they have no reason to talk properly because Mommy and Daddy always know what they want. Every baby / kid goes at their own pace. I think thats quite well that your baby can say all of that. Mine can barely say anything other than Dada and her own language.

Starting toddler groups this week with my LO, so she will probably be chattering it up very soon :haha:.

Thanks for the quick reply

It has eased my mind a bit

Good luck with the toddler group :)

Thank you!! We are going to have so much fun :cloud9:.
2 groups so far, Fun & Fit Wobblers, and Sproutsongs Music class.

The average is one word at one year. So your little one is ahead of average, so far.

My eldest didn't have that many words at 18months, now, at 2.5 she can talk the hind leg off a donkey and could since about 22 months!

Lots of babies/toddlers seem to have a language explosion at some point, where they suddenly make huge leaps in speech. It happens at different times for different children, just like all milestones. :flower:

Your child is not behind. I would say they are quite advanced. My daughter is 15months and although she can say words she doesn't at all. She has to be in the mood to talk, if she isn't in the mood you won't get anything but baby babble, sometimes for weeks on end. I wouldn't be concerned at all. Tell your mum all babies are different. X

Your LO sounds absolutely fine. That is a really good amount of words for a 13 month old. My daughter never really said anything until she was two.

Thanks everyone!

It really bugs me when she says that to me.

lo doesn't talk all the time but mainly when she feels like it her fav words are dada and woof lol

Oh my gosh, ignore her. That's excellent for 13 months. Mine didn't even say her first word (cat) until she was 13 months. She's 3 now and pretty advanced in her language skills according to our HV and her key worker a nursery. Talking to her is pretty much like talking to an adult. She talks in full, complex, abstract sentences, has a huge vocabulary, and is really expressive. I would say that's certainly more words than most of my friends' babies said at 13 months as well. My husband didn't even say his first word until he was 2.5! (He's also perfectly developmentally normal and very smart, I should add). Your mum probably just has selective memory and can't actually remember what's normal for a baby of that age since her own experience parenting is so long ago.

My Lo is 26 months and says - mum, yes, no. That is literally the only words he says, he repeats the same sounds for various things so I know what he's saying but even my oh doesn't understand what he wants half the time. I would not say your lo is slow at all, compared to mine she's a genius!!

Your little one sounds like she is doing fantastically! :) She has plenty of words for that age - I think my son was the same and he picked up talking very fast.

Thanks again everyone

Today she started saying see you and yeah

Wow that's actually really good for her age!

My little is 14.5 months and has
ta (both for thank you and bye)
Dada (he babbles this all day long)
Mmuuuuummmmm (when he's mad and wants something)
Eesshh (please. Only says it when we say "say please" )

He knows who mumma and dada are and if you tell him to take something to either he will. But he doesn't use the words in context. Apart from ta. Everything else is just babble.
