Alfie feeds fine on the breast. He's only 2 weeks 3 days but for sanity and in the interests of continuing to bf I NEEEEED for him to take bm from a bottle.

Currently we use the Avent air flex size 1. After an initial suckle which takes the edge off his hunger he screams blue murder as he begins to choke on the milk. By this time he's so traumatised that he refuses to suckle on the bottle again.

Can any one reccommend a better way/bottle or are all bottles/techniques pretty much of a muchness?

I think it's just trial and error. I liked the Dr Brown ones which claim to have a breast like flow - they have to work a bit for it. It' not the shape so much as the flow that's the issue right? If so the teats are the same shape on the Dr Browns as the Avent. You can buy individual ones too. The Breastflow ones also claim to be breast flow like! They are giving free sample small ones on their website - worth a quick email?

:D

hiya i finally get my LO to take BM from a breastflow bottle, would recommend them! got mine from tkmax randomly - was about to give up after spending lots of money on diff bottles/teats!
good luck:hugs:

The first bottle & teat I gave Lucas were medela ones and he took to them instantly but I then tried him on the tommee tippee which came with the steriliser and although he accepted it no problem we ended up with milk everywhere and he didn't seem to keen on it either so I went back to medela.

I would try a couple of others and see how you get on. Do you think maybe you could wait a few more weeks and then try again ?

I know how you feel if Lucas hadn't started taking a bottle I think I would of ended up adding formula feeds as I got that stressed.

I have used the MAM ones and harry seems to like these and i recently got a couple of the freebie breastflow ones and he likes these and i can def see why they claim to be like the breast, they have to use their tongue in a similar way.

I used to have to really warm up the milk and the actual bottle teat for him to accept it too.

Good luck

i have always used Tommee Tippee CTN bottles. i didn't give Fred a bottle of EBM till he was about 6 weeks old, not sure if that made a difference with him taking bottle instead of boob? good luck x
