hi guys, i am pulling my hair out with this, lo 3months about 4 weeks ago i posted a similar thing, it settled down and now its back lo is crying and screeching when feeding, arching back, spitting milk out (not being sick) everytime he has a couple of sucks and swallows. Its not the teats as i have put him on next level up. Been doctors he said it was teething. He can suck his dummy no problem and after crying sucking fingers for more food then the cycle begins again! any ideas? stressed mom here:wacko: x

my LO one was doing this last night and id noticed brought up clear sick a couple of times, not formula sick, kind of like bile i thought? i thought maybe a bit of acid reflux....he settled after walking him about upright and keeping on patting his back....he did bring up some wind then settled to take his bottle but was a stressful couple of hours....hope he settles soon. have you tried infacol or gripe water when he does it? havent myself but might if it happens again.....hope this helps xx

hi hun i thought it was slient reflux, but he is fine and settles after, i've just had a look in his mouth and i think his gum is slightly swollen and if i go near it he screams the place down so it is probably teething just given him calpol and he has gone to sleep exhausted from crying! its just so frustrating for both of us i think as its every feed! i hope it passes soon thanks hun xxxx

Sometimes my daughter fidgets, sucks for a short while then pulls away then screams until I put the bottle in again.
When she starts doing it I put anbesol on her gums and give her a dose of calpol.
Usually within a few minutes she's quite happy to finish her bottle.
The anbesol gives her chance to feed while the calpol kicks in to take the pain away for a while.

Right tried another feed and he screamed the place down again! so i thought right i'm going down the health center, i saw a lovely nurse she looked at him and in his mouth and didnt think he was teething, i showed her how he fed and she went and spoke to someone else came back and more or less said it was reflux. She advised me to go back to level 2 (avent) teats to slow the flow as he was gulping alot making the reflux worse. She said if he doesnt improve to ask the gp to refer him to a ped. So i have gone back to level 2 and whether its coindience(sp) he has fed ok?! so i will see how he goes over wk end and go from there, feeling a little less stressed now! xxxxx

you'll be feeling better now you know what it is,hope you both have a better night tonight xxx

Hi Rachel, I had this problem with my LO when he was about 5 month, he was like this for a few weeks, turned out it was teeth cutting, I know your LO seems a bit young for teeth but some babies do start cutting early and it can take a while for them to come through! Other than this, have you tried a different brand of milk? or even putting a tiny bit of horlicks or something in just to flavour it? my HV suggested this. Another problem I had with my LO doing this around the 4 month mark was that he didnt like his milk warm anymore, just room temperature. Hope this is of some help xxx

Ive posted so many times about this and ive had numerous drs tell me its reflux, then tell me its not, then tell me shes doing it for attention, HV is baffled but is helping me ALOT, we tried gaviscon and she still did the same, its only some feeds she does it and theres no pattern, now we're trying lactose free milk, still no diff. Personally i dnt think its a medical problem but i SOOOO know how frustrating and hard it can get when they start screaming the place down. Im hoping itl calm down when she is on solids. Although if you manage to find a solution or what the actual problem is, please please can you let me know as ive had numerous people look into this for months now. Thanks xx

Hi Guys i reduced the teat size and we have been fab since although did have a not so good feed earlier (same as before), i thought OMG here we go! Tryed to think what could have caused it and Lo did'nt bring up alot of wind after the bottle before and didnt take the usual amount, so next bottle came gave infacol (always do) still wriggling a bit but not as bad some crying but he had the full feed winded puked a a little bit and is now very happy!

Another thing i tried was not having the ring of the bottle too tight as this can affect the flow apparantly?! :dohh:

Going to see how we go fingers crossed!

mummytobe, i know exactly how you feel!!! i just keep thinking when it happens its not forever and my baby is healthly!! keeps me sane  keep in touch let me know how you get on and i'll let you know xxxx

Ruby had this problem too (silent reflux) and our hv told us to start weaning her as she wasn't putting on enough weight (roughly half the weight she should have been putting on). We were really apprehensive about weaning so early, but she's been great with it and within a couple of feed her reflux problems started reducing and by the end of the 2nd day she wasn't having any problems at all.

Obviously not saying you should start weaning, but just bear in mind that if the problem persists, your hv may suggest it, and I thought you may feel reassured knowing our experience in that situation :)
