ugh ive screwed up and didnt realise that the dogs jabs had gone overdue
i cant immediately afford the full £47 they want as its overdue (they wont just give the booster)
is there anywhere that will help with the costs?
if not obviously i can save for it (and have cancelled any fun xmas orders that were coming that have not been dispatched) but as the vets wont let us do a payment plan i wouldnt be able to get them done asap. x

How far overdue?our vets said we have about 2 months to play with.x

are you on working tax credits or benefits? you can take them to the PDSA if you are who only require a small payment x

That^ sounds like the thing to do hun if you qualify for any!

Which shots? They don't really "need" annual vaccines. Many new studies have shown they are immune after a year if they get the puppy series and one booster at least 6 months later. The rabies is required here as it's a public health issue, but it still doesn't "need" to be done from an immunity point.

This ^^^^

Unless you need it up to date for kennels or what ever I wouldn't bother tbh.

Completely ditto this. This is what my dog groomer friend on FB posted a few weeks ago:

I've set up a package with my vets, I pay £10 a month and get free unlimited consultations, vaccinations two health MOTs a year etc. Do your vets not offer anything similar x

im torn now, its just his annual boosters, he's had the puppy series and 3 years worth.
could we get in trouble for not vaccinating him at all?
and is there a big risk if we dont?x

my mums has dogs and they never have had annual boosters and they have all been fine!

but obviously its up to you xx

thanks hun, think we're holding off until atleast after christmas x

Do you have a local Vets4Pets? we've always used them, they usually have offers on and we have never paid more than £10 each for vaccinations. We had two lots of puppy ones, and two annual boosters.

we dont have anything like that near here at all. i live in the middle of nowhere x

We don't vaccinate our animals (3 cats, 1 dog). We did their puppy/kitten jabs. We were told that they are very similar to children in the way that as long as they have all their puppy/kitten vaccinations (- this is usually very similar to the babies 2 month, 3 month & 4 month jabs) they will be covered for a good 10 years.......

If you still want to vaccinate, check the PDSA website to see if you qualify as they only expect a donation (their fees are nothing like vets either.... our last 'bill' from the PDSA was £3 for an antibiotic shot and £5 consultation)

Hi, at the pdsa booster jabs are £27.00, I thought you had a 3 month window to have the booster done(once had a vet tell me my dog would need the full course till I told him he was with in the 3 month window) If you do need the full course it shouldn't be much more. To qualify for the pdsa you need to be receiving housing benefit or council tax benefit or both. hth

I haven't done annual boosters in years. They do cause issues like tumors and other things after years and years of unneeded vaccines in the same locations.

have talked it out with my OH and i think we've decided on leaving it until its necessary for kennels :) cant believe i didnt know all this!

My dog doesnt have it either, she just gets wormed and has flea treatment. Thats it unless she actually gets ill as we dont have her in kennels or at any clubs x

Personally I wouldn't leave any jabs my dog or cats require. I pay £10 pcm however and have flea and worm treatments, annual vaccinations and health checks included, also 25% off neutering etc.

That's it they AREN'T required. Vets tell you they "need" them yearly, when they really just want the revenue they generate. If they didn't "need" them yearly, then most people would skip the annual exam (which is still probably a good idea). The science shows yearly vaccines can actually be HARMFUL to your pet. Do YOU get yearly vaccines for diseases that don't change? No, because you don't need them. Once you are immune, you are immune.
