We have two names in the running really, pretty sure we'll use one of these, or both. They are Amy and Jasmine.

If we use Amy as first name the middle name will be Jasmine.

If Jasmine for first name if we use Amy as middle name the initials will be JAP, not too sure about that!

So we could use Jasmine with a dif middle name, no probs.

Main quandry is is Amy too plain? And is Jasmine too common? Looking at a list from the year our DD was born (08) Jasmine and Amy are in similar positions of popularity, to where DDs name is. We have never met another girl of same age with same name, which I like. I want to avoid this for our next DD too, if possible!

Do u know many babies who are Amys or Jasmines?

Thanks. X

Hi I really like the name Jasmine, I would have considered it for my girl but it sort of rhymes with our last name. I dont know any jasmines or amys for that matter but I do much prefer jasmine. have you thought about yasmin if you are worried about the popularity of jasmin?

Thanks for your reply. Hmm for some reason i'm not at all keen on Yasmine, no idea why as like you say its similar to Jasmine. Thanks for your input xx

I'm biased as I have an Amy, so I prefer that name  I also think Amy Jasmine flows better than Jasmine Amy. I don't find that Amy is overly popular either, but then again I would say the same for Jasmine xx

Thanks loraloo, good to know youve not found it overlly popular. X

I don't know any Jasmine littluns (and only one adult) but know a LOT of Amy's. Would you consider waiting to see if when she's born which one she suits better?
x

We are thinking of calling our baby Zara Jasmine if its a girl. I don't know any Jasmines other than a neighbours grandaughter. I also only know one Amy.

Amy was on our short-list for girl's names so love it! Jasmine is lovely too  Both beautiful names imo :flower:

Thanks for your replies.

As much as I love Jasmine, some how I can better imagine an Amy being part of our life. I can imagine our DD calling her baby Amy, can picture my parents talking about Amy in the future. Maybe im weird lol, but ultimately I do think we'll end up waiting to see which name would suit her when shes born. X

I think waiting till she's born and then deciding is a great idea. And sometimes a name is neat/interesting/unusual, but doesn't go with who you are as a family personality-wise.

Thanks mazzy you make a good point about the name being right for the family .

I prefer Amy, it was on our shortlist. I think it is a classically pretty name. I know that it is a well known name but I have only ever known one Amy. Jasmine is also very pretty but I think it is a lot more common, certainly than Amy around here (and without wishing to offend anyone, I hear it a lot from 'chavs'!!).

In the US, I've never known anyone personally with the name Jasmine... The only person I can think of is an actress, Jasmine Guy, who only acted in 1 television show years ago that I can recall. And then there's Yasmin Bleeth from Baywatch...lol... But, that's it.

But, Amy is a very, very common name from my generation. Not so much anymore.

Thanks for the insight into how it is accross the pond, I know a few Amys my age, but none my DDs age (3) but just not sure if its suddenly being used again now.

Zomo I must admit I was worried a little about the chav thing!

I spend all day everyday meeting every strand of the public in my workplace, and I can hand on heart say I cant remember the last time I met / spoke to an Amy. Met quite a lot of Jasmine's though, especially children and teens. Not many older Jasmines.

I think at the end of the day you should use the name you love. Doesnt matter about popularity if you love it (although that is hypocritial of me as I am stuck on our chosen middle names as they are all popular and I like to be a bit different, haha!!). You have to love the name for the next 60 years or so, and I think that both names are pretty, go with your heart - or flip a coin!!!!!

I really like both names, and think either name chosen (Jasmine Amy or Amy Jasmine) would be a great choice! I don't know any babies currently with those names.

I also don't think Amy is too "plain", but maybe if you do decide to use it, you could spell it Aimee, gives it a little more definition, if that is what you're looking for

Amy and Jasmine are common names in our place.....although both are lovely

you can also consider Kendra, Alessandra, Assunta...few of my fave names

You could use Amy as a nickname if it's too popular for you?

Amity Jasmine would be gorgeous!

or, other names that you could use Amy for:
Amabel Jasmine
Amalia Jasmine
Amalthea Jasmine
Amara Jasmine
Amelie Jasmine
Amethyst Jasmine (a bit nature-y)
Amika Jasmine
Amira Jasmine

Best of luck with your little girl!

Amy Jasmine flows better.. One of our LO's middle names is Jasmine and I've only ever known one Jasmine, but loads of Amys.

Same as that, I know plenty of amy's but no Jasmine's and I think Jasmine is a fab name
