Does a subchorionic hematoma greatly increase your chance of a miscarriage?. I was diagnosed with one at week 12 . After having bleeds weeks 10 11 12. I am now 16 weeks and have not had any bleeding or spotting in a couple weeks. My question is am I still at risk of miscarriage?

Doc has me on pelvic rest since week 10. He said he is not concerned

I had one too. After 5 weeks of bedrest I got an ultrasound that showed everything healed. Not bleeding is a great sign. Hopefully you're OK now.

Have they checked you to see if the hematoma has resolved itself? I had two at the beginning of this pregnancy and a small bleed around 9 weeks but no trace of them at 12 week scan. I believe if they persist throughout they can cause complications but they will usually absorb. I would ask them to check you again for peace of mind.

I had one from 7 weeks until about 9 weeks. Have not had any bleeding since, and am now 13w3d. It does increase the risk of miscarriage, but that risk goes down quite a bit after the first trimester. I was just told to take it easy, and as far as I know, the hematoma has been reabsorbed. Good luck :)

They have not checked in 4 weeks. Since the 12 week scan. I go back Thursday but i believe it's just blood work. Maybe they will do a scan and check guess I will see Thursday.

I had one at 11 weeks. I passed a couple large clots and went to the ER. The ER doctor put me on pelvic rest but when I saw my obgyn the following week he said pelvic rest was not necessary anymore. I'm 29 weeks now and baby is healthy and growing. No one ever mentioned a higher percentage for miscarriage to me.

It does increase your risk of miscarriage but I was told by my consultant that once the baby gets bigger than the size of the bleed then miscarriage risk reduces. I think it depends on where it is situated too. The issue is as the blood comes away it can also take the baby with it, but the bigger the baby the stronger the hold. At your stage the risk is now minimal. It's so frightening isn't it. I didn't actually stop bleeding until 18 weeks but felt assured knowing baby was bigger than bleed and she was making space for herself and pushing the bleed out of the way!

No, it doesn't greatly increase your risk. I believe 1-3% of pregnancies where an SCH is present end in miscarriage.

I had one diagnosed at 12 weeks after a big bleed and the bleeding continued until I was 16 weeks. My bleed was in an awkward spot but reabsorbed sometime between weeks 26-33. My healthy baby boy was delivered on Sunday, weighing 6lb 10oz.

ok this does make me feel better.. I hope they lift the pelvic rest rule at 20 weeks. Its getting frustrating. :) :)

Congrats on your baby Princess.
Im still bleeding now but only brown spotting. Im 16 weeks and have been bleeding since 9. Heard bubbas hb yesterday and the midwife said baby is just growing and forcing the old blood out.

I had one and bled from 5-12 weeks. I had my scheduled scan at 13 weeks and it had healed. I was told it does increase the risk of miscarriage but that if it did happen it would probably happen in the first trimester.

phew good to know i am out of the first trimester! just cant wait for every tuesday now that it makes me another week!

doc said if there hasnt been bleeding in a couple weeks we can go off pelvic rest! i Really want to just very scared!

I felt the same after coming off pelvic rest too! It took me ages to return to 'normal' I was scared to walk any distance, carry my toddler etc. to be honest I tried not to strain myself to much and still don't!

Is pelvic rest only recommended in the US? In the UK I was told there was no proof it made a difference to the likelihood of miscarrige and so to carry on as normal.

I've haematomas in both pregnancies and they've not caused a problem.

I did read about it and I found reports saying that it didn't actually seem to increase risks of miscarriage.
