heparin injection?? Help

my MIL has just been diagnosed with thermbosis( a blood clot in the leg) she has just been to pick up her prescription and has been giving heparin injections which say take daily for 7 days does she need to give herself these injections? so confused! thanks

Yes, I had to inject myself in my stomach - although someone qualified should show her exactly what to do first

I had to inject myself with Heparin after having a blood clot on my lung. A nurse showed me how and it's really simple, you just pinch a roll of fat from you tummy and inject it anywhere! The quicker you do it, the better! You should alternate which side you do it everyday as well.

I actually couldn't do it myself and I let my OH do it. He enjoyed it far too much! lol!

Yes, I have to do them daily. I make DH or someone else do it though. Clean the spot with alcohol pads, then push the needle straight in (perpendicular to the skin) all the way (needle should be fairly short) and inject the medicine, then leave it for a few seconds before you pull the needle out. It may bleed or bruise in those spots. Both are completely normal. Don't inject into an old bruise and alternate sides of the stomach (it usually hurts less more to the sides than in the middle).

My DH cries if he thinks he hurt me (or if I bleed or bruise). He really hates doing it, but I told him he has to for the babies.
