Hi ladies pls help 5 days postpartum and stop BF for 2 days!!!

Hi ladies I had my baby on Sunday and I did BF in the hospital for the first three days, after that my nipples became so sore and bloody everytime my son would feed my nipple would bleed. I stopped for 2 days and gave formula (I know bad idea) to let my nipples recover. NOw i am worried I have no more milk. I just bought a breast pump and I am going to pump, do you think it will work at this point, or is it hopeless?

Your milk supply is possibly still being produced hormonally rather than stimulated by baby feeding at this early stage. Lots of mums who FF from the start will still have milk at 5 days pp, for some it may only just have come in. Do you know what day your milk (rather than colostrum) came in?

Even if for any reason your supply has been affected you still have a good chance to get it back (some women relactate after weeks!). What you have to do as well as pumping is find people who can help with the baby's latch. Bleeding nipples are not something that it is "normal" to experience although it is very common and you need to find out why it is happening and if it can be corrected. Do you have support groups near you. If you are in one of the countries where La Leche League (LLL) operate then I would strongly advise talking to them and getting them to visit you. They are so supportive and skilled.
