Hi ladies, anyone else in same boat?
Iv had two previous sections but was a lot slimmer, now I'm over weight and due a section in august I'm really worried my bmi will cause problems.
Any advice? Thank you :flower:

Hi Hun,

I'm due for a section the beginning of July, I also have a high bmi, I have a consultants meeting next week regarding my section. Have you seen a consultant yet? Normally they talk through the risks with you.

Yeah iv seen the doctor and she was nice, told her I was worried about it, she didn't reassure me much. What's your bmi if u don't mind me asking. Mines about 38

Have you got anymore consultant appointments? My bmi is 37 so really similar to yours. I've had two previous csections also, this will be my 3rd. I was told there is bigger risk to infection, I've got another appointment with the consultant next week so will hopefully get more of an insight.

I'm not sure if I have more consultant appointments but I do have to go in for a prep although I don't have an appointment yet. The last doctor did say it could take longer to get through the scar tissue. I'm Also worried about the epidural ugh x

I had a BMI of about 48 with both og my kids. Didn't have any issues at all with the sections or the recoveries.

I've never heard of it taking longer to get through scar tissue just because of a high bmi.

my bmi was high with my last section but it went fine, even the spinal went well. Recovery was good too and my scar healed very well. Was out of hospital 2days after my section. Hoping for the same this time around.

My bmi was over 40 when I had my second section. I had a pre meet with a doctor who did a once over to check for vein access and look at my spine for the spinal. I had no problems with the section itself and recovered well from my secon section. I certainly had no indication that it took longer to go through the scar tissue from my first section because of my size.

Thanks so much it's so good to hear from others that are the same as me

Bmi of 40 here and in the drs words veins were crap in hands and it might be difficult to palpate the spine.
All it meant when it came down to it was the anaesthetist had to use a longer needle do took two attempts to get it in and that was in a high stress emergency situation. Suspect it took them longer than usual to cut through too as took ages to get baby out and they had to really pull and tug and the surgeon looked like he was sweating but there weren't any actual problems despite everything the consultant said would be a problem.

My bmi is really high at over 60 last pregnancy (I'm hoping its in the 50's this time round) and besides a surgeon fainting and a crap anesthetist (Was trying vbac but ended up in emcs) it went smoothly. I had a 2nd anesthetist when they switch and he was the best I've ever had. I really hope he still works there and will be around this time. I honestly love that guy. I had 3 surgeons in the room, the trainee one fainted due to blood. I was out of it at this time but my OH told me all about it. But it was plain sailing and I was out after an hour.

Recovery was a lot quicker than with DS. DS took a couple of months to fully recover and I was slimmer then (normal bmi) and DD took a week! My scar did get infected, but after daily baths and some antibiotics soon cleared up.

That's great to hear, crazy that u healed better with a lower bmi but very encouraging as this is the highest my bmi has ever been. Thanks so much for everyone commenting it really does give me words of encouragement x

I have a bmi of 41 38 before I think. I had emergency c section last time no problems with epidurals or spirals and I healed fine.

If you are taller of weight is distributed evenly or not around lower back that is not a problem.

Keep the scar clean wash regularly and dry thoroughly... They always give you the warnings but don't worry.... It will be ok.

I worried about this a lot before my due date but in the end everything went smoothly. My incision was fine and has healed nicely. I think when my baby was born I was probaly 100 lbs over my ideal weight!

Think this Is about how many lbs I'm over weight by, I did want to stay as fit as I can but I'm exhausted and always ache so it's not as simple as I first hoped.

The thought of anything going wrong and leaving my children makes me feel ill. I'm sure I will be fine but this likes to creep in now and then

I feel like that too.. It's an operation so of course there are risks it's only natural you feel like that. Try not to worry.

June 29th, but I have another scan tomorrow at 37 weeks as baby is very big! Last baby was 10 lbs 3 oz.

Lots of luck with it.
Yes my ds was over 11lb just hope this one doesn't follow in his footsteps
