hey ladies ..

Has anyone else had a low risk pregnancy.. All the way through I haven't had any problems we have had a few scares with pre eclampsia and baby movements but everything has come back fine and now my iron has dropped down below 10 .. My midwife wants me to take double the amount of iron .. .. But because of this I am now considered high risk and although we have gone through a birth plan I have been told I can not use the brig centre ATM and they will check my blood in 2 weeks.. I know that it could go up but what if it gets worse or doesn't as I really don't want to have to give birth on the labour ward or worst case have to have a c-section I'm really upset about this and if anyone has had any positive experiences it would be great to here x

My iron has dropped to 10 and my stores are at 6 and they haven't moved after 3 weeks taking iron tablets but as far as i know i'm not high risk. If i am, nothing was said to me. I can't take the iron tabs as they mess with my stomach (IBS) so I got my first iron injection last night. They do hurt like hell but if it brings my iron up faster then i'm all for it. Were you offered iron injections? I'm not as far along as you though, so i don't know does it change things. Sorry :-(

I didn't know there was an iron injection.. I have bloods done again at 38 weeks my consultant went we want you to go into labour naturally or be as close to 40 weeks as possible so makes me think she isn't sure they will work as try can take 2 weeks but we will see .. You have plenty of time for the iron to work therefore you will probably be okay from what my midwife says they like iron to be above 10.7 I'm worried mine will drop more I'm at 9.9 and that's from a week baby's are little monsters they need alot of our energy etc x

Get them to check your ferritin levels.

Stop drinking anything with caffeine, take your tablets with orange juice and continue with a healthy diet, you might want to buy spatone iron supplement, I've heard good things about it.

With a low Hb it's means your midwife will be just keeping a close eye on your blood loss after birth, it doesn't mean you need interventions during labour (induction/ continuous monitoring etc) so though you might not give birth in the birthing centre it doesn't mean you can not achieve the birth you want.

You still have anything up to 4-6 week to improve your iron levels and you can always ask them to recheck your levels on admission to make sure you don't have to stay on labour ward.

My blood levels are at 9.4 and I'm not high risk!! And I can't take the tablets - also mess my IBS and give me a nasty tummy. I take Spatone now, nice and easy on the tummy, and I can still poop lol! I was told they can only test you after a month of taking a supplement as that is only when the results would show. xx

I don't mean to scare you but a good friend gave birth 2 days ago and had a Hb level of 8 and she nearly bled to death and had to have continuous blood transfusion for 18 hours. Has scared me senseless and I'm now taking iron supps to keep my levels up.

My levels were at 9 so I have been on iron supplements and havent been told I am high risk because of it. I also havent been offered a follow up blood test  Maybe I should ask midwife about it tomorrow?

I was at a 9 last time and I'm sure my iron has dropped since than being originally anemic. Just take the iron sometimes your body just needs a little boost. I'm high risk for a number of other reasons but haven't been told I would be high risk because of my anemia yet. Maybe they are worried about your clotting factors and you losing to much blood that you would need an immediate transfusion

I have a low iron too. I was ordered by my obyn doctor to take a daily supplement, iron 150mg (feramax)

I'm not sure what my iron level is...but 150mg? seems a very strong one here!

I'm not sure why they're not saying that I'm not a high risk here?? They didn't say anything here. So... during my next visit, I'll ask my doctor more about it.

I take two Iron sulfate tablets at 325mg a piece 68 mg of iron a piece and if my iron doesn't go up i'll be bumped up to 3 tablets so I wouldn't worry about 150mg

Yikes! 325mg? Holy moly! :S

I've just started taking my supplement daily about 2 weeks ago.

I was started in iron 2 days ago and I'm on 200mg 3 times a day.... So 150mg doesn't seem too much xx
