Hi ladies, so long story short we've been trying for 15 months and the gp has stated to look into what's causing the problems not able to conceive after 2 pregnancies. So I had my 21day blood test it said I'd ovulated and that my thyroid was fine but that my testosterone was higher than it should be? I've been told I need a CD 1-5 bloodiest done which I had today as I started bleeding last night but it'd stopped and the gp said do it anyway. She mentioned at looking Into PCOS as I have most of the symptoms but if I'm honest I'm not sure what the whole process involves and if I'm diagnosed with PCOS what the next steps are??

Any info/ advice is welcome :)

Hi

Your CD 1 - 5 blood test will confirm whether you have PCOS depending on your hormone levels.

I had to have the same blood test after a scan showed that I had polycystic ovaries but the blood test showed that my hormones were in normal range and that I didn't have PCOS.

I don't know if you're able to change the title of your post to include PCOS in the title to get more of a response from others in the know.

Good luck with everything.

I have pcos and early cycle blood tests confirmed it. I don't have high testosterone but my lh levels early in my cycle are twice the level of my fsh (typical in pcos). Then I had a scan which confirmed polycystic ovaries.

Do you have any other pcos symptoms? They include acne, more body/facial hair, irregular cycles & thinning hair on your head. High testosterone is a Cause of some of these symptoms. Are you in a "normal" weight range? Some women with pcos find their symptoms improve with weight loss.

I have a "normal" bmi & I get acne and very infrequent cycles with my pcos. None of the other symptoms. The first line treatment for women with pcos who want to get pregnant is medication to help you ovulate - eg clomid or femara. I'm currently on clomid.

You might not have pcos & only your blood test & a scan can confirm it. Getting to the bottom of your fertility issues could really put you on the right track though - good luck!

Thank you for replying ladies according the the receptionist said my CD1-5 blood test were satisfactory so guess they are ok? I also had an ultrasound today which shows my ovaries are polycystic and they've sent a report including pictures to my gp so I have to book a appointment next week to discuss results/outcome.

I do have quite a few symptoms of PCOS:

Acne (only the last 6months) my skin has always been clear!
I'm over weight and I'm struggling like hell to lose the weight :(
My cycles range from 28-33 days
I've noticed excess hair :(
Hairs falling out
AF is just agonising I struggle to get out of bed some days.

So ATM just hanging in limbo waiting to see the gp if I am diagnosed with PCOS what are the next steps?

Feeling pretty alone and hubby isn't helping.

My test results were all with the range of normal - but my lh was double my fsh which is odd. Your gp will possibly spot that but it's unlikely the receptionist would... if it's there. I requested a copy of my blood results and then googled normal ranges for comparison. I'm a control freak though and I to fully understand my own information.

Have you only seen your gp so far? If so it's likely you'll be referred to gynaecology. The gynaecologist that I see thinks that pcos is best treated with the pill unless ttc - in which case it's likely that medication to stimulate ovulation is necessary.

However - I have heard others say that with a higher bmi weight loss is considered the first part of treatment. I've heard that low carb diets are best IF you have pcos because they also tackle insulin resistance which can be a big part of pcos.

Sorry - that's a lot to take in. I can ramble on sometimes!

Wait to get your test results and see what your doctor says. The hardest part is the waiting... Honest! And as for your hubby - men can bottle things up or be insensitive sometimes. Maybe he just doesn't get it? Mine doesn't always and I'm not one of these that shares every intimate detail of my cycle - he does try though! Hope yours is trying too - even if it's in his own way.

Thanks Hun, that all makes sense, not too much info atall, I've been trying all sorts of diets for the past 6months with exercise etc and I'm finishing it so hard to lose the weight it's such a struggle, so worried how they'll take that if I'm unable to lose the extra weight :(

I hate this waiting game it's just annoying and yet another friend announced they're expecting so feeling on a bit of a downer today :(

It so hard when other people announce their pregnancies. I always feel so happy for them - but wish I were in their shoes too.

Some people are prescribed metformin in to control their insulin and help lose weight if they are diagnosed with pcos. You're on the right track with getting investigations - I'm hopeful someone can offer you the right help!

When will you get your blood test results?

I know it's hard, I'm happy for them but also secretly jealous, feel so bad feeling like it tho.

I should get my results this week some point when I see the GP I'm just dreading it all to be honest at the moment in feeling like falling pregnant
Is impossible :(
